I had high expectations given the hotel's Trip Advisor rating; not to mention the fact that it takes 11,000 La Quinta points to get a free night - compared to 6,000 at most other properties in Ohio. I walked in and saw the small lobby and breakfast area, the little pool, the "fitness center" that's basically 3 pieces of older cardio equipment, and a room that was so small it didn't even have a closet, but an armoir.... Not to mention scruff marks in the elevator and such an overpowering scent of evergreen that when I opened the door, it made me cough. I stood in my small room (that DID have a nice flatscreen TV) and I shook my head, wondering how in the world this hotel gets such high ratings and demands such high prices - (the hotel was totally empty and I still ended up paying $100.)
It can only be because it's one exit away from the Football Hall of Fame and that football fans are used to paying $8 for a beer and $6 for a hot dog. It also happens to be near a really nice mall and a lot of other shopping - but don't be fooled - it's still nearly a half-hour from downtown Akron - so I wouldn't recommend it if you have to go there for work.
The hotel's only positives are the free breakfast buffet and the staff. The breakfast included scrambled eggs, sausage, danish, muffins, fruit salad, yogurt, bread for toast, oatmeal, cereals, juices and coffee and that waffle machine you see in quite a few motels. The staff was also incredibly friendly, like the people of NE Ohio, and they did have some smallish cookies at the desk when you checked in.
But bottom line: is it worth $100 a night (or much more during big events at the Football Hall of Fame), or 11,000 La Quinta Points? HECK NO!
