“Terrible!!!! Stay away!!!!”

Horrible experience! Room was in the basement, smelled like sewage, had mold, and bed was broken, construction going on, famous chef was actually the young girl who took our order. Owner was very rude and nasty and charged us an extra $300 on our credit card. Owner even filed theft charges against us. Entire experience was terrible and everything is WAY overpriced. Our experience in more detail: I booked a $300 a night luxury room for Fri and Sat. I was told over the phone by the owner that it was the best room they had. I also purchased a private dinner for Saturday night to be cooked by their famous chef that was going to cost us $200. What we got was a room in the basement that was FAR from luxury. Just walking down to the room you were hit with the smell of sewage and a damp wet feeling. There was a dehumidifier going in the corner (not a good sign). We were immediately not happy but since we drove 3 hours to get there we decided to give it a try. We decided to have dinner there and test out the food. Dinner was a joke! There was construction going on all night and the workers had kerosene heaters going and the fumes were blowing strait into the small dinning area. It was really gross to smell that and eventually starting bothering us. The guests at the other table were also complaining about it. When my husband got up to try and shut the door so the fumes would not blow in on us the owner came over and got nasty with him. In a very condescending tone she asked if they were bothering him. He politely told her it was the kerosene that was bothering us. She had the heaters turned off and our dinner arrived at our table. The food was ok, not terrible. Definitely not worth $40 dollars a plate. Plus you have to pay extra for a side salad! We would have had much better dinner at a local steak house. We were confused about the dinner because we expected a famous chef to do better on a simple meal like we had. When we asked about the chef we were informed that the chef was on vacation and that the young girl filling our water was the person making our meal! She did not look to be older than 18. That night we realized that the bed was broken and we had to fight from rolling off of it all night. We also starting developing terrible headaches and our sinuses starting getting so stuffed we could not breath. We had no idea why this was happening until the next morning while packing to leave I noticed black mold. By this time we had enough. We were tired from not sleeping, and very sick from the mold not to mention all we could smell was sewage! We packed our bags and went to the front desk to inform them that we were leaving. This is when the fun really started. The owner became very angry as soon as she saw our bags. We told her that we were leaving. She very angrily told us we had to pay for Saturday nights room as well as the dinner we had scheduled for that night. I politely told her I already paid too much money on the basement room that made us sick and I was not going to pay for another night if we were not staying there and that the dinner was supposed to be cooked by a famous chef but that he is gone now. She again got very angry and refused to let us leave unless we paid for EVERYTHING. Eventually she agreed to only charge us for the night we stayed. We signed our receipt and ran for the hills. We thought our experience with Debbi Miller was over at this point. We were wrong. Five min after leaving she called us accusing us of stealing bath robes! We told her we did not have them but that we would be happy to come back so she could check our car and bags. She then told us that we probably ditched them at the side of the road and hung up us. She then called back again and put her maid on the phone to stress how we must have stolen the robes. My husband again told her we did not take the robes and asked her what she wanted from us to solve this problem. Her response was hanging up on us again. The next day we got a phone call from the sheriffs department informing us she filed charges against us for theft! The officer on the phone thought it was a total joke and was laughing with my husband on the phone. He told us she has filed several other similar reports on customers. She also has 16 reports filed AGAINST her from people who have stayed there! The court later dismissed our charges. However, we later noticed that she charged us an extra $300 dollars on our credit card! I have no idea how she can do this because the strange thing is that the charges were from the day she ran our card in the office. These mysterious charges did not show up until a few days later. We think she gave herself a very large tip illegally. We are currently pursuing the issue. Also, every review I have left has been taken down. One review company contacted me to tell me that she sent them a letter from the FBI stating that I am an internet hacker. All I had to do a send in my receipt and they put my review back up. However, other review sites are not. She is doing this to lots of people who leave bad reviews. Do not trust positive reviews and know that there would be more negative ones if she was not having them illegally removed. Owner is insane and out of touch with reality! She should be paying us for ruining our weekend and not stealing from us!

“A New Years Eve to Remember”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We were blown away by the service and dining at The Hide Away. We stayed in the Out of Africa Loft and it was twice as beautiful as the pictures I saw online. It was a surprise for my boyfriend and he lost it when we walked in the room. The downstairs was lit up with bunches of candles and the Jacuzzi was ready for us, I had asked them to set it up before we arrived. Once we unpacked and relaxed for a while we went over to the dining room for dinner and was shocked to find they had a Gourmet Chef. the meal was unbelievable and very well priced for every thing we got. The next morning after a fantastic breakfast we had massages in the spa that completed the perfect couple days!!!!!! Thank you so much for a great holiday its the best we have ever had. We will be back

Room Tip: The lofts are amazing

“Lawsuit, Bait and Switch, Buyer Beware”

We received a gift certificate from a family member for a 2 night stay in a specific suite at Hideaway Country Inn plus money toward dinner. After calling to schedule a reservation with Debbie Miller the owner, she refused to honor our gift certificate for a weekend date unless we paid a $180.00 up charge. She was rude and hung up the phone on us when we clearly pointed out that there were no weekend exclusions printed on the gift certificate! She then offered a $220.00 less expensive suite for a weekend, which we declined. This company uses bait-and-switch tactics, beware. After numerous attempts to get a refund for the gift certificate from Debbie, we filed a Small Claims lawsuit in Crawford County Ohio. One week prior to our court date, Debbie refunded the cost of the gift certificate, but has yet to reimburse our $65.00 court costs. Please check public records, the better business bureau’s C+ rating and other reviews prior to making your reservation. Buyer beware.

Room Tip: Since the owner Debbie Miller would not honor our gift certificate, we were unable to use our gift c...

“We were treated like royalty!!! Incredible!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

Rooms are impeccably clean, everything in working order, staff was very friendly, courteous, attentive, and most importantly, GENUINE. After check in, the owner Debbie came to check on us to see if we needed anything. The New Years Eve dinner service was a huge hit with everyone. We had our dinner in a private den with 5 different people waiting on us! Talk about feeling special! 5 course meal from lobster bisque, lobster ravioli topped with caviar, caesar salad, salmon wellington baked in a puff with bernaise sauce topped with blue crab!!!! We were in HEAVEN!!!! To top it all off, Chef Marc came took time away from his dinner service to visit us at our table. The place was packed, everyone was smiling, laughing and in good cheer! Our main waitress Lisa also served us a very flavorful breakfast the next morning, everything was fresh and tasty! The only disappointment we had was that we had to check out and go home soon! We saw a few undesirable reviews before we booked, but thought what business doesnt have a few? seems like the bad reviews come from people wanting something for nothing! We were still smiling when we got home 3 hours later! Definitley try this place, i guarantee there is no comparison, HideAway is second to none! I am telling everyone I know about this place, and the people that know me know my word is as good as gold! Thanks Debbie, Marc, Lisa and crew! The Snyders

“AMAZING”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

The Hideaway Country Inn was the perfect place to go to get away from everyday life and just relax. Everything was beautiful and went perfectly. We stayed in the African room which had a huge jacuzzi and amazing fireplace. In the morning we went to the main house and had a wonderful two course breakfast that was also beautiful. The staff was welcoming and helpful at all times. It was just an overall great place to stay. We cant wait to go back to the peaceful atmoshpere.

Room Tip: The African room was amazing with huge jaccuzzi, fireplace, porch, huge bed up the stair, two tvs...
