My adventure started when I booked my room online 3 weeks in advance for one night at this hotel. My family and I were expecting and ready for a cold, comfortable room to crash in after a long hot day at King's Island. When we got there I had to call on the lobby phone to get a person to come to the front desk who proceeds to tell me that he has good news and bad news . The bad news is that they over-booked for that night and unfortunately our room was one of the ones they oversold. He said the good news is they booked us at another hotel just a few miles away and it was all taken care of. He gave me printed out directions to the hotel and as we approach the location we notice that it is not a Homestead Suite but rather an Extended Stay America. I had noticed that the area started to deteriorate the closer we got to this hotel. As we pulled into the parking lot my gut was already telling me not to stay here and the seedy looking people in the parking lot did not do much to change that feeling. The guy in charge that night was nice and that was about all that was good with this place. Everything was old and worn out. All I can say it was not a comparable hotel. I called Homestead back and told them this hotel was unacceptable and I wanted booked at another place. He informed me that there were no other Homesteads in Cincinnati and they could only put us up at an Extended Stay because they are part of their chain of hotels. We end spending over an hour and a half trying to find another Extended Stay at a nicer location. After multiple phone calls they found us another room at a location 20 miles out of our way. When we finally made it there completely exhausted it appeared this location might be a little better, even though I was still a little leery. I checked the room out first before paying for it and did not like this room either. They had us at the back of the darkest part of the hotel on the 2nd floor. When I went back down I told the attendant that I did not want that room and requested a room more to the front of the hotel, preferably with some lighting. She looked for several minutes and finally said, "I'll just go ahead and upgrade you to the first floor". I ask her if all the rooms were the same and she informed me that the first floor rooms were newly renovated. Wow, wasn't that nice. If I would have accepted the first offer I would have been stuck in the dirty and worn out room on the top floor in the back but fortunately I disagreed and she "upgraded" me, which I did appreciate. You would think that after all they had put us through they would have at least told them to put us in their best room. The good news is we did not have to pay at the Extended Stay, but Homestead actually charged us for the night that we did not stay at their location. We had to call and resolve that as well. To say the least we were very inconvenienced.
