“A memorable experience for the whole family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

We recently spent 2 nights in the Rosella room. The room was large, plenty of room for the 5 of us. The beds were comfortable and most importantly, the room was cool. There are two ceiling fans and an air conditioner. In this section, there are a shared shower and toilet, these were very clean.

We were given unlimited access to the zoo. The kids (5, 7 & 9) loved the close interaction with the animals. Although we see kangaroos on an almost daily basis on our property, they loved being able to pat and feed the tame ones here. We discovered an emu chick that had been born that day and were able to play with the dingo puppies. We also watched the crocodiles being fed.

The included breakfast was delicious and in a lovely setting. We also had one evening meal, which was enjoyed by us all.

The pool, which was outside our room was very refreshing, as it was very hot when we travelled.

The zoo is situated in a good spot to explore the area as well. We enjoyed a river cruise only 5 minutes drive away and the Daintree River Ferry is only a short drive away.

For us, two nights was probably enough all in one room, sharing facilities.

Our holiday included stays elsewhere and other exciting activities, but if you ask my 7 year old what the highlight of his trip was, he says "We got to sleep in a zoo". If the kids are happy, everyone is happy!

Room Tip: Don't forget the insect repellent!

“Something a little different”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2011

Staying overnight in a zoo was a little unusual and we weren't sure what to expect and I'm still not sure if it was zen like or simply weird, so probably best to split into good bad:

Thumbs up
Amazing room and ensuite! The king bed was sooo comfy. Close to Cape Tribulation ferry and Daintree village. Delicious continental breakfast. Having a 'chat' with the birds in reception. Nice and quiet - good for relaxing. The kangaroos - who roamed free (within the zoo) and were amazingly friendly. Amazing sounds of the rainforest at night.

Thumbs down
No lock on our room door! The single bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. Zoo was very quiet and felt a little eerie. No flyscreen on door. Huge 'golden orb' spider in a massive web living in the ceiling of reception - I accept some people would find this a positive.

Also worth noting that whilst there's loads of beaches and of course the Daintree river trips to enjoy during the day, there's nothing in the immediate area and Daintree (15min drive away) has very little to offer in the evenings - i found this to be a positive but good to know before you go.

“worth it for the amazing experiences with the animals”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2011

We stayed at Daintree Wild for three nights and found it a great base to experience the Daintree region and Cape Trib. In hindsight we probably would have spent an extra night in the resort at Port Douglas and only two nights here would have been enough to explore the region. The room was very large and comfortable, but sharing a shower and toilet was a bit frustrating for my wife.
The included breakfasts were wonderful - smoothies to die for. We skipped the dinners as they were a bt overpriced overpriced - found a brilliant takeway about 5 mins towards Mossman (Wonga Beach Takewaway at the Caltex petrol station) with mackeral burgers that really surprised with their quality.
The real star here is the animals - my girls fell in love with Beep Beep the emu and Mouse the wallaby, as well as all the other tame animals roaming free outside your door. we have many photos of hugs with kangaroos and emus that they will remember forever, and there were very real tears from my 12 year old when we had to leave. Definitely worth dropping in to experience that.

“Fantastic B&B with access to the Wild Zoo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2011

My husband and I stayed here in December 2010 for two nights and thoroughly loved it! We stayed in an Aviary Room which is located on the upper level of the main building and overlooks the zoo - stunning outlook and access to the animals! The rooms were beautifully appointed and the bed was huge and very comfortable. The floors are tiled and have both airconditioning and a ceiling fan allowing you to cool off in the tropic temps! The bathroom was spacious and had an amazing shower. The room also had a tv and small fridge.
Our nightly rate allowed us access to the Zoo which was just incredible! There are raised boardwalks over some of the enclosures allowing you the best view of many enclosures including the crocodiles. The are two walk through aviarys as well as many others throughout the property. Some of the tamer animals roam freely throughout the Zoo so you have the opportunity to feed or pat tree wallabies, kangroos and their joeys and a cheeky emu. The collection of their animals is very impressive and the owners are very helpful at answering any questions you may have.
There is a fully fenced pool on the property that has a shade sail covering half of it so you can cool off in the shade.
The continental breakfast was ample with delicious fresh juice. We ate in the restaurant one evening and food was fresh and generous.
This property is also ideally located in the Daintree only a few kilometers to the Daintree River Car Ferry giving you easy access to Cape Tribulation.
We would highly recommend a night or two here.

“Unbelievable place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 May 2010

This place is staggeringly beautiful and your hosts are awesome. The zoo itself is the sort of place where you can see the animals welfare is put first and the owners really care about them more than squeezing dollars out of you. For instance, unlike many Queensland zoos, they don't have Koalas up here because it is too hot for them and they die at a young age.
The zoo has countless birds (some of which you can have sitting on your shoulder or walking up your arm), crocs, cassowaries, walk through aviaries, emus etc. It is not crowded and totally worth the drive.
The accomodation is stunning to say the least. To think anythng else you would need to be deranged. Huge beds, beautiful linen, walk-in showers, hand crafted furniture and views across the zoo below. What more could you want?
The restaurant area is lovely and the prices are very reasonable. You can re-visit for three days using the same ticket. Staying here gets you free entry to the zoo. It is a must for any person coming to northern Queensland.
