“Rainforest hideaway just do it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2010

We stayed at the most expensive resort in cape trib just across the road from rainforest hide away and I will say it's not a patch on this place. We are well travelled around the world and on our last few days here stumbled on rainforest hideaway..It has true feeling on what life is like up here.No mobile phones ,no busy roads ,no screaming kids ,just peaceful tranquility and a amazing experience of natural beauty.the owner will look after all your needs if you require some action ie scuba diving, croc spotting ,jungle surfing or even an organised tour to the fruit farm.Just ask him and nothing is too much trouble,if you like fine food then there is a lovely restaurant called whet down the road.Having stayed in lots of 5 star hotels this bed and breakfast will probably give you one of the most amazing experiences as long as you are prepared to live with nature .ps the tree frogs don't bite.you want an amazing experience then do yourself a favour stay here you won't regret it.Help yourself to breakfast when you want to not when someone tells you to,now that's my idea of a relaxing holiday.Leave all your worries and stress at home.

“Rainforest Hideaway is accommodation with love and soul. Unforgettable experience.”

I would recommend Rainforest Hideaway to anyone who wants to experience the real Australia. The B&B is situated in the middle of the beautiful rainforest in Northern Queensland. It's close to the beach, amazing walking trails and all there is to do in Cape Tribulation. The rooms are clean and well-decorated and the breakfast was absolutely lovely. The host, Rob, was incredibly accommodating (he helps book all tours for his guests). He built the B&B himself and it's an incredible place. As a skilled carpenter and sculpture artist, he has created a beautiful sculpture trail through the rainforest and the atmosphere is incredibly zen-like. Rob is a great guy, generous in spirit and really makes you feel at home. It's a magical place that everyone should experience.

“Our Highlight in North Queensland!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2010

Recently on our Australia holiday we were lucky enough to find Rainforest Hideaway re-opened after a year of closure. The owner had taken a break and used his time constructively to make the place even uniquer than it already was by building statues and sculptures along trails through the rainforest. We only spent three nights in this wonderful relaxed place but would have loved to stay longer, our open air bathroom looking out in to the rainforest was the best we have seen anywhere, and our host was always very helpful to show us the best beaches and to book our tours for us. The reeftrip is an absolute must-do, dolphins, whales and sea turtles all in one day, and our horse ride along the beach down the road was an experience too. Although hair dryers were forbidden because of the limited solar electricity the accommodation was comfortable and clean, and breakfast on the backverandah with rainforest views was a great way to start the day. Definitely the highlight of our stay in north Queensland, hope to make it back some day!

“A quiet retreat in the rainforest”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 April 2009

We stayed here 2 nights in August on our honeymoon. Cape Tribulation was my favourite spot on our month long visit to Australia. We stayed one night in the boardwalk cabin and one night in the main house. Both rooms are fine, but I enjoyed the boardwalk cabin more because it was "open" to the forest. You get the feeling of camping without actually roughing it in any way. The breakfast was adequate and I appreciated trying the different exotic fruits. My husband and I both liked the ambiance of the place and the little humourous touches here and there. If we had more time, the grounds themselves would be a nice place for a relaxing afternoon. The owner has put a lot of work into the place and he also helped me alot when I was making my plans for Cape Trib.

“Basic, Rustic, Simple Rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2009

This place is definitely not for everyone. Rustic is the best way to describe this place.

The rainforest hideaway is about 1/4 to 1/2 a mile off the main road. I guess that's consider "deep in the rainforest" but it is actually within walking distance to civilization so it's not like you're Survivor Man or something.

It's nice that it is eco-friendly. All solar powered so can't use a hairdryer.

The place was in need of a powerful vacuuming to suck out the cobwebs, dust, and debris that was collecting in the common area and around the windows in the room, but then again we were in the rainforest.

Breakfast was basic and consist of cereal, fruit, and toast. Unfortunately, we did not have any local exotic fruits. There is a resident brush turkey that hangs out while you're having breakfast.

The owner, Rob, has a slight obsession with Easter Island as there are many sculptures resembling those Easter Island heads including the chairs in the common area.

Do eat at Whet as this was the best restaurant we ate at in Cape Trib and even in Port Douglas.

The rooms are basic and simple. We stayed in room 1075

-Room is adjacent to common/registration area. So noise will be a problem if there are a lot of guests using the area.
-Bathroom is really small and didn't seem really clean. The sink is a boat sink so little room to put toiletries and stuff.
-No locks. But the place is out of the way and is pretty safe, so no big deal.
-No screens. Was worried that we were going to get attacked by little buzzing things. Mysteriously, we had no problem with bugs. (very unrainforest like).
-No fan or A/C. Just the natural breeze. Wasn't too hot or humid while we were there.
-There was a frog in the shower and hubby took a shower with the frog.
Don't think the frog appreciated it.

Not sure if I would stay at this place again. Our room though simple did not feel clean. Can't describe it. (For perspective, I have stayed in the jungles of Belize and Peru so this is not a new an experience for me.)

If I stayed here again, I would rather stay in room 1049. It was in the back and had a 360 degree view of the rainforest. Also the bathroom is in the front of the house but huge and seem cleaner
