My wife and I joined two other couples for a lovely stay at the Old coach House. having paid just £109.00 for a Groupon voucher, we weren't sure what to expect, but figured that at the worst, it would be better value than a `Premier Inn or Travel-Lodge! We quickly found that we'd got the bargain of the decade when it comes to a weekend break. Firstly, a problem when reading reviews on Trip Advisor - apart from it can be a forum for whiners who moan at the slightest "issues" - is that they can quickly be out of date in their information. Anyone worried that if they book a stay, they will have to walk for 15 minutes to the Lifeboat for meals, fear not. The breakfasts are served at the Old Coach house, and are tremendous. Usual range of fruit juices, cereals, fresh fruit, tinned fruit, yoghurts and tea and toast, backed up by a marvellous choice of cooked breakfasts, and over the two days, we were delighted. No food left under heated lamps for ages!
The evening meals were just as good, with no shortage of assistance with the little extras, and the drinks were reasonably priced. Not that we could have complained at the price we paid - we got unbelievable value for money.
The room wasn't massive, but all you need, wherever you are staying for a walking break such that we had was enough warm water to get clean - tick. A clean and pleasant room - tick. a comfy bed - tick. Only complaint was that ( and not the old Coach House's fault) the water pressure doesn't provide for a powerful shower, and some of the rooms don't have showers (at the time of writing). With Marco Pierre White having bought the place, it is one of the things that might warrant some investment.
Of course, if a place has good staff, any issues can be overcome, but furthermore, the stay can be more pleasant if you interact. When we stayed, most guests politely went about their business, but we engaged Jemma in some banter, and it made the stay top class. We can only concur with what many others have written here. Jemma is a natural. Good manners, common sense, good humour and inspired leadership aren't necessarily things that can be taught; in some respects , you either have it, or you don't. Jemma has it, and she should be commended.
What a shame Jennie B found no toilet roll holder. I assume there was a toilet roll, though......or would she rather have a toilet roll holder and no roll. Probably, it would provide another thing to have a pop at. Ignore the negative reviews. If you have a glass half full attitude to life, get yourself booked into the old Coach House - one of Jemma, or one of her staff will gladly fill it for you.
