“Fantastic food, well situated, the service might be slow, but its worth it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2010

having booked online, and in need of a place for some r&r, I arrived at the hotel and thought I'd come to a pub. however this is not actually the case, although locals do use the bar. it isn't a huge place and it is on a main road, so be prepared for some noise, but it worked for me.

The room was well appointed, bathroom was small but ok, and there was ample tea and coffee in the room. And it was comfortable enough to sit in the room and play scrabble on a wet afternoon (three padded chairs (not arm chairs) and a table.

The breakfast was great, plenty to eat, don't understand the comments of other reviewers, the bacon must be local and is delicious, if the big breakfast was ordered, few could finish it. - downside, service was slow and a couple more members of staff are needed.

Dinner - brilliant - ate in 2 out of 3 nights, couldn't fault it, 2nd night the mushrooms were divine, the sauce awesome, the pork, best I've had for ages...and too much to eat dessert. - too good to be true!! Decent wine list as well.

“Good hotel with friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2010

Stayed in The Whitworth Park Hotel during a short break in the Peak District.
The location of the hotel was ideal for the areas of the peak District we visited.
The staff at the hotel were very pleasant. The room was spacious comfortable and clean.
The breakfast included in the price of the room was just the start for any day walking and taking in the beautiful country side. All food was of a high standard.
Great stay. Thank you.

“Good time had by all! Will be back!”

We decided after many years of talking about visiting Chatsworth House we would actually book a nice little hotel and go. On our arrival the hotel looked just like the pictures, a very impressive building. It was already dark and the hotel had lovely little lights on the outside and a gorgeous georgian lamp to welcome us. Our rooms were very warm and clean. The 32" tv with sky was nice as well! We had an amazing dinner (do book your table before you get there, it is busy with locals) - 3 courses for a ridiculous £13! The nicest meal we have had in a long time and an excellent menu to choose from. We also had a few drinks in the bar which was also very nice. The hot toddy went down a treat at £2.50! I was also impressed at the Grey Goose readily available! Our sleep was very nice as the room was so warm.
In the morning we managed to eat our delicious cooked breakfast (included in the price of the room) and set off for Chatsworth which was a really lovely day, a must for anyone! Another lovely meal and a good nights sleep followed, as did another breakfast - you may put on weight staying here!
The band did play (it was Friday night) which we saw some of, very good! It was not as loud and did not play for as long as the grumpy reviews had mentioned which we read beforehand. Had it been summer there is a nice park behind and a beer garden which im sure would be lovely. We really enjoyed our stay. The staff were all very nice.

“well worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2007

A bit of a surprise really, lovely room (family room overlooking Whitworth Park) very well appointed and comfortable. Cleanliness was above average. We dined in-house 2 out of 3 evenings, the food being of a very high standard, but the service was not quite up to scratch, the reason we supposed was that the accommodation was a sideline (only 5 rooms) and priority was given to 'public' diners 50-60 each evening !! testament to the quality and value of the menu.
All in all an enjoyable experience.

“Quite nice - could have been so much better”

The hotel was nicely decorated and rooms good.

The staff completely let it down though as they were unfriendly / indifferent to us being there.

We asked if we could book for dinner and were told they 'had two parties booked that night and we could not have dinner'. There was no sorry, or suggestion of a restaurant nearby.

We could not have a drink in the bar, as the tables were set up for the parties, and we took our drinks back to our rooms.

This was a shame, as the restarants were nicely decorated and the food looked really good and like the hotel, it was good value for money.

It seems, with only 5 rooms, the hotel makes it's money on the reputation of its restaurant, but this is at the expense of it's guests, which seem to get in the way of this !

With a friendly welcome and the chance to eat dinner there, it would have been a perfect place to stay and great value, but with these two elements missing, we left feeling very dissapointed.
