The Red House is a real find. While Darley Dale itself may not feature high on the list of places to go within the Peak District, it is an excellent place to base yourself, being as it is within near-enough proximity to Matlock, Matlock Bath, Bakewell, Buxton and, most crucially, the ever-impressive Chatsworth House.
The Red House itself is located just down a picturesque country road, and the building itself is lovely. Inside it is just as impressive, with a very 'country' feel but with all the modern amenities you could want (including a very friendly welcome from the owner or other members of staff). We have stayed there twice - once in the stables area, and the other in the main house itself. Both rooms were spacious, comfortable, clean and overall very impressive. The gardens and general view were also beautiful.
The food on offer at Red House is where it really excels. The breakfast offerings and varied, generous and, most of all, very tasty. The evening meals are superb. There are many good restaurants nearby, but anyone staying at the Red House really should sample the four-course meal at least the once. The venison steak in particular was as good as I've ever had. Very, very highly recommended.
Overall, I would recommend the Red House to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in the Peak District (or even just fancying a night away and a good meal). I really can't find fault with it.
