“An excellent stay in a spotless B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

My wife and I booked at the Swiss House the week before our visit. Most Castleton B&B's (if not all) have a minimum 2 night stay at weekends but we phoned on the off chance/hope there may be availability. We were in luck, and Martha couldn't have been any more helpful or pleasant during the booking. It was our 20th anniversary (not wedding, just since we met) and we decided to do something nice to mark the occasion.

When speaking about the booking I asked for a recommendation on the nicest room available and was given a couple of room options and we went for room 8. Have to say the photo on the hotel website doesn't do it justice. It is a lovely sized room, with an excellent, large shower and has a lovely view in the morning (when you open the fantastic blackout curtains). To wake up and look out to see snow on the hills and a small dusting coming down, it was a lovely sight. The bed was extremely comfortable and we had a lovely nights sleep. We didn't hear any noise during our stay although on check out we were asked if some occupants had disturbed us due to noise, which they hadn't. The breakfast was lovely, cooked to order with quality ingredients and was just what was needed.

We booked this B&B following reading the tripadvisor reviews and am really glad we did. We will definitely be visiting again early in the new year. The fact it is a B&B only as opposed to a pub with accommodation actually suited us. The pub across road (the Cheshire Cheese inn) is lovely and just far enough away to hear no noise!

Once again, I highly recommend this B&B and want to thank Martha for being extremely helpful when we spoke to book. The only thing I'd change is that breakfast is early (finish taking orders at 9:15) but this was explained to me before booking. But overall - a fantastic place to stay.

Room Tip: We loved room 8

“Perfect Hostess”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

On our own for the first time in England, Martha (co-owner with her sister Mary) was the perfect hostess. This B&B is wonderful! We had a newly remodeled room. It is convenient to the caves, castle, pubs, and beautiful scenery of the Peak District. The breakfasts were varied, big, tasty, and very well prepared in the huge kitchen (used to be a restaurant). But it is the spirit and energy of Martha that really stands out among many wonderful things. (Mary was out of town for most of our 3 day visit.) Her suggestions were always good. Her sense of humor was fun, and she gave us the best suggestion ever as we mentioned that we might head north next. (Robin Hood's Bay, Yorkshire) So, go to Castleton for a wonderful Peak District experience, stay at Swiss House for a perfect B&B experience, and talk to Martha for a bit of fun and good advice.

I'm so glad these guests enjoyed Robin Hoods Bay. I always think its a great shame that foreign visitors head for the expensive 'tourist' cities like London and York when there are fabulous treasures like RHB up in north Yorkshire!!!
Glad they enjoyed their stay with us as well - glad to be of service!

“Great B&B and location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2011

Spent a lovely two nights here last week. Very warm and accommodating room (number 8) with clean sheets, shower and tea making facilities. Close to main strip with a nice pub just across the road. B&B has off-street parking.

Breakfast is cooked to order with hot and cold selection. Owners are friendly and helpful in providing suggestions of what to do/see/eat in the local area.

Short drive to other Peak District areas like Hathersage, Bakewell, Chatsworth, Ashton-in-the-Water etc.

Perfect choice and location for those looking to relax in the district...

Room Tip: Room 8 is nice and warm for winter (although up 2 flights of stairs), and has a great view in the mo...

“top notch b&b”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

The most friendliest and accommodating owners. We have stayed twice and each time the rooms and the bathrooms are clean and tastefully decorated. If you need to leave early before breakfast is served they will make sure cerials, toast, etc and tea and coffee is laid out for you. Its in a great location within a few minutes walk to the local pubs and centre of town, but still remains quiet at night. Top notch b&b

“Wonderful b&b , with wonderful service in a wonderful location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011 via mobile

Have just returned from a lovely , relaxing 2 nights away at Swiss house. We stayed in room 9, which had fabulous views from both windows . It is quite a small room but perfectly formed. Everywhere , the rooms and the public areas are all spotlessly clean . The breakfast offered a great choice and was freshly made and delicious . I would not hesitate to recommend this property to all my friends & family and look forward to returning again in the near future .

Thank you, Nat, for your comments.
I like room 9 as well - I know the low beam makes it not really suitable for tall guests but it does have the best views and it does have a fabulous shower!!!
