We would agree with other writers that the staff at this hotel are exceedingly good and quick to sort out any problem. However, communication and information could be better. We phoned many months in advance to ask the cost of one night plus parking for the holiday. We were given a price, which we felt was reasonable and compared well with Heathrow hotels, so booked. However, when we arrived we were told that the price we had been quoted was only for the parking, which they had not taken at the time of booking!!! This made it more expensive than a five star Heathrow Hotel! The duty Manager was excellent and sorted the situation very fairly and amicably, but they do need to re think their pricing and booking process.
We had a ground floor room, which was quiet and we were not disturbed by either airport or hotel noise. When we entered the room was cold, as no-one had thought to turn on the heating prior to our arrival - when will hotels realise just how unwelcoming and uncomfortable this is?
Our room was pleasant and spacious enough for a table and two chairs, although there was a lot of wasted space - there were two alcoves by the bed, which were impossible to see or access while you were in bed so impractical for alarm clocks etc. There was a curious wooden sloping structure between the wall and the bed, so not only did the bed jut out further into the room than necessary, but there was nowhere to rest your head if you were sitting on the bed e.g. to watch television.
The bed was uncomfortably hard and the pillows even worse, so when we woke up from what little sleep we did get we ached from our heads to our feet!
The other major drawback of this hotel is the timing of breakfast. We had booked on a B&B basis and normally have room service when we have a very early start. However, we discovered that the earliest one could "tick" the box for time was 7-7.30, which is nonsensical for an airport hotel. First this is far too late and second it is far to great a time span. Again, they really do need to rethink their policies and have regard for the needs of the people they are catering for.
One final point - we booked a transfer to the airport, which was excellent and very efficient, courteous and comfortable. However, we did not realise we had to book the return transfer at the same time and no-one thought to ask, despite us having parking at the hotel, so we have to phone the hotel when we return, which is an unnecessary inconvenience.
To sum up - we cannot fault the staff and the service, which is the only reason we have rated it as highly as three stars. However, room design, comfort, breakfast and communication all need to be improved.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on Trip Advisor about your recent stay at the Thistle East Midlands, which has been immediately shared with my senior team to ensure we are all reacting quickly to guest concerns and suggestions for improvements.
I was sorry to read that there was some confusion about our pricing, we aim to ensure that our pricing is clear, value for money and of course dependant on demand to ensure we can always offer the best available rates to our guests. This said I was pleased to see that our duty manager was prompt in their actions to put this right quickly and in a positive manner.
I will ensure our entire front desk, explain the variety of breakfast options with our guests on check in, and although we operate room service from 7am, we operate a full continental breakfast in our restaurant from 330am – especially suitable for our early airport risers, which is mentioned in our guest service directory in the bedrooms.
I was glad you noticed how quiet our rooms are as we benefit hugely from being away from the Motorway and the flight path of the airport and it is a shame you found the bed and pillows not as soft as you would have liked. We will check these straight away in case they is a need to change them.
We do hope we will have the opportunity to welcome you back to the Thistle East Midlands Airport Hotel in the near future.
