“Nice hotel to stay in”

Design is a bit old-fashioned, but amenities an personnel were OK. Very close to East Midlands Airport Terminal (300m walk), which is appreciable.
Rooms are big enough, bed is nice, bathroom is not very roomy but for me it was enough.
The pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna were appreciable during this snowy weather.
The only problem lays in the Internet access. There was no way for me to access it anywhere in the hotel, except the lobby.
The restaurant and bar were OK also, but crowded during the weekend, which makes the waiters forget you even exist !
Good breakfast.
Will go again.

i recently had a two nights stay in the hotel. my overall experience was good.
the staff was excellent, the rooms clean and spacy, the facilities ok, the internet connection just fine, the parking free of charge (strange for the UK), the breakfast rich, the dinner menu adequate.
the bathroom can use a renovation and instead of the bathtab have a shower and the dinner menu can use some additional dishes
the overall impression is that it is a good hotel with good value for money

“Erm.... not for me thanks”

Stayed here on buisness. Arrived late and weary and thought I would order room service rather than brave restaurant on my own. No room service! So had a meal in the very bright unwelcoming resturant where the food was disapointing, the atmosphere non existant and the service not brilliant for the prices charged.

Room was comfortable and hotel surprisingly quiet considering distance from the airport (mind you I never travel without my earplugs). Booked my room through late rooms and got a family room. Hotel reception swifty moved me to a smaller room at check in and tried to get me to pay for breakfast again, until I explained.

Nothing really terrible about this hotel, but nothing really nice either. Just average. I am sure there must be nicer ones nearby but would guess its handy for the airport.

Thank you for posting your review of your recent stay and I am sorry that you did not entirely enjoy your recent trip with us when you stayed on business and I certainly will be sharing your thoughts with all of my team as your feedback is a very important and helps us get things right for all of our guests.

It is a shame you were unable to order room service as should be available over 24 hours although there are some restrictions on the availability of hot food over night – all the contact details should be in the guest service directory in your room, I’ll make sure this is checked straight away.

Whilst I appreciate your stay was not entirely fantastic – I do hope we will be able to welcome you back, sometime in the future.

“Thank God they have good staff!”

Thank God they have good staff because the hotel is a disappointment. I ordered a deluxe room- a small double bed with a bath stained by worn out enamel was not what I was expecting - the staff changed the room and the replacement was much better (very hard mattress though!) The car parking only gives 15 minutes free- not enough to drop off luggage- the staff validated the token so no charge.The first course at the restaurant was poor - changed without complaint. A beautiful coffee machine - but no decaff coffee for a late night drink- the staff found some instant and didn't charge. Aircraft noise is audible and surprisingly there were aircraft at 3a.m. Thank God for the staff!!!

Thank you for leaving your feedback on Tripadvisor in regards to your recent stay at Thistle East Midlands and for your kind comments about our helpful staff, which I will be sure to share with those concerned. I was sorry to hear that you had to change rooms, all of our rooms have recently been refurbished in the past couple of years and we make a regular check of the condition and comfort of our bed base and mattresses – although the next bed audit is brought forward as I would very much agree the comfort of a hotel bed is a top priority for all hotel residents.

Whilst it is regrettable you found your first course at dinner poor and were disappointed with the lack of a decaffeinated espresso option – it is encouraging for me to learn the empowerment of customer service is recognised by our guests and I will certainly look into offering a decaffeinating option for our bar.

I do hope we will be able to welcome you back to the Thistle East Midlands in the future and thanks again for your feedback.

“Good staff, shame about the hotel!”

We would agree with other writers that the staff at this hotel are exceedingly good and quick to sort out any problem. However, communication and information could be better. We phoned many months in advance to ask the cost of one night plus parking for the holiday. We were given a price, which we felt was reasonable and compared well with Heathrow hotels, so booked. However, when we arrived we were told that the price we had been quoted was only for the parking, which they had not taken at the time of booking!!! This made it more expensive than a five star Heathrow Hotel! The duty Manager was excellent and sorted the situation very fairly and amicably, but they do need to re think their pricing and booking process.

We had a ground floor room, which was quiet and we were not disturbed by either airport or hotel noise. When we entered the room was cold, as no-one had thought to turn on the heating prior to our arrival - when will hotels realise just how unwelcoming and uncomfortable this is?

Our room was pleasant and spacious enough for a table and two chairs, although there was a lot of wasted space - there were two alcoves by the bed, which were impossible to see or access while you were in bed so impractical for alarm clocks etc. There was a curious wooden sloping structure between the wall and the bed, so not only did the bed jut out further into the room than necessary, but there was nowhere to rest your head if you were sitting on the bed e.g. to watch television.

The bed was uncomfortably hard and the pillows even worse, so when we woke up from what little sleep we did get we ached from our heads to our feet!

The other major drawback of this hotel is the timing of breakfast. We had booked on a B&B basis and normally have room service when we have a very early start. However, we discovered that the earliest one could "tick" the box for time was 7-7.30, which is nonsensical for an airport hotel. First this is far too late and second it is far to great a time span. Again, they really do need to rethink their policies and have regard for the needs of the people they are catering for.

One final point - we booked a transfer to the airport, which was excellent and very efficient, courteous and comfortable. However, we did not realise we had to book the return transfer at the same time and no-one thought to ask, despite us having parking at the hotel, so we have to phone the hotel when we return, which is an unnecessary inconvenience.

To sum up - we cannot fault the staff and the service, which is the only reason we have rated it as highly as three stars. However, room design, comfort, breakfast and communication all need to be improved.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on Trip Advisor about your recent stay at the Thistle East Midlands, which has been immediately shared with my senior team to ensure we are all reacting quickly to guest concerns and suggestions for improvements.

I was sorry to read that there was some confusion about our pricing, we aim to ensure that our pricing is clear, value for money and of course dependant on demand to ensure we can always offer the best available rates to our guests. This said I was pleased to see that our duty manager was prompt in their actions to put this right quickly and in a positive manner.

I will ensure our entire front desk, explain the variety of breakfast options with our guests on check in, and although we operate room service from 7am, we operate a full continental breakfast in our restaurant from 330am – especially suitable for our early airport risers, which is mentioned in our guest service directory in the bedrooms.

I was glad you noticed how quiet our rooms are as we benefit hugely from being away from the Motorway and the flight path of the airport and it is a shame you found the bed and pillows not as soft as you would have liked. We will check these straight away in case they is a need to change them.

We do hope we will have the opportunity to welcome you back to the Thistle East Midlands Airport Hotel in the near future.
