Just returned from a wonderful weekend at Candlewyk Barn where the owner Sam went out of her way to make us welcome and make sure we had everything we needed. Although there are stairs to climb it was good to have your own front door and key and I could have happily relaxed all weekend with the complimentary magazines, beverages and chocolates!Out of the windows there are rural views of ponies and hills with a pretty brook meandering below. The barn was very clean, spacious and felt luxurious with lots of extra touches you do not always get in holiday accomodation. The ensuite was large, a good non slip floor and had beautiful white fluffy towels with large size gorgeous toiletries available rather than the usual single use bottles. The bed was very comfy(M&S) and the crisp 'White Linen' bedding was as new. My husband can vouch for the excellent cooked breakfasts which the barn is known for as the owners breed rare pigs. We drove to Windermere and walked during the day but as the barn was so warm and cosy we enjoyed a bottle of wine there that we had chilled in the fridge rather than going out to a pub in the evening. The barn is in walking distance of Ulverston town centre with lots of places to eat.We both loved this place and would love to return.
