“Lovely place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

I have stayed here twice now and its so nice. The rooms are clean and the breakfast is lovely and so much choice. We stayed in the granery this time it has lots of room. There was so much going on for Halloween my daughter had a great time! We come just for an overnight stay to relax and have a break and it is ideal, wonderful place for all age groups,.

Room Tip: The granery has a lot of room for not much extra money.

“Lovely getaway, wonderful people, but needs a good scrub.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

We stayed at Muncaster's Coachman's Quarters for a family short break in August 2011. Our family had two rooms, just down the hall from each other. One room was near the doorway to the kitchen and lounge, and that door could be quite loud banging shut. I think that would be an easy fix. Ours was the family room, with an extra single bed for our son. It was wonderful to have this as an option, however, the placement of the bed was unfortunate. It was right under the wall-mounted television, right up against an electrical outlet, and right next to the hairdryer (see my pics). The outlet could at least have a safety cover placed over it. My son had a great time pulling down the hairdryer but thankfully the television was out of his reach.

The bathroom, and in particular the shower, really needs a good scrubbing. See my pictures of the shower for an up-close view of the mildew!

The common areas were nice, though the lighting in the kitchen was a bit iffy and the dining room wasn't open until our second night, so we ate in the kitchen.

It is a great value and the setting is fabulous. We enjoyed after-hours access to the grounds, the play area, and the owls. It was all magnificent!

Access to the town for pubs and restaurant facilities could be better - it's a long walk down the hill and the pathway recommended by staff took us on a circuitous route through some campgrounds! If you arrive by rail, be prepared to pre-book a taxi to get up to Muncaster. We managed to catch a bus down to Ravenglass for the Ratty and we walked back as it was a nice day. A Muncaster staff person was very kind and drove us back to the station the next day. All the staff were lovely and very kind and helpful.

“Glad we stayed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

Good value.
Nice to walk round the grounds after the castle is closed to regular vistors. Free entry to the birds and discount for the castle is a nice touch, and worth spending a few hours over.
Good English breakfast.
Rooms on the small side - but interestig to overlook the owl sanctury (we didn't notice any hooting in the evening). Big shared Lounge, and a kitchen. Bathroom basic but functional.
Very handy for Ravenglass (& the railway) and the Western Lakes (Wastwater).
We had a couple of evening meals at Ratty Arms (hearty pub homecooking) - but can get very busy..

“Amazing place, can't wait to come back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

We stayed here as a family of 4. (Two girls aged 3 and 1) Staff were really friendly and very helpful and we were shown to our room. The room was a great size for all of us and had lovely views of the owls and mountains.
Decor was a little dated but gave it charm. Room spotless and we had everything we could ever need, with a shared kitchen and lounge. Beds lovely and comfortable and we all slept very well.
Breakfast was outstanding, never had a better full english. Staff very friendly too! The best bit of this bed and breakfast is that you get access to the castle grounds, even when all the vistors were gone. This included the owls, which the girls loved! Would highly recommend this bed and breakfast and will be back very soon. Very good value for money, especially with all the extras!

“ROOM WITH TWIT TOO WOO”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2011 via mobile

Really nice place to stay and including free entry to the Owl World. The castle grounds are beautiful and great to walk around when all the day visitors have left.
The Owls were hooting throughout the night which is a little annoying if like me you're a light sleeper.
Good breakfast, polite staff and great location.
