“a totally unpleasant experiance”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012 via mobile

staying at the white water hotel at the moment booked in for two nights arrived today sun really good first impressions right on the river its been snowing so its very picturesque we arrived early so we could not check in til 2pm but was told we could use the facilities so we went to dolly blue bar for some lunch we were with my son and his wife we all thought what a beautifull setting the hotel was in and were in oar of the place the bar man Paul was brilliant at making up feel welcome and his customer service skills were second to none we had a lovely meal and he looked after us until we could check in my sons room was nice but mine was very cramped and overlooked the main rd so i asked if a bigger room was available which i was given with no questions asked we were in very good spirits and looking forward to our evening the restauraunt imparticular as both myself and my son are chefs and enjoy dining out and tasting other chefs food the restauraunt was really nice over looking the river the starters were delightful i ordered lamb the others ordered med cooked fillet steak the place wasent that busy but we seemed to wait quite a while for our mains when it did arrive it was beautifully presented my lamb was delisious but all three steaks were over cooked we told the waitress who took them away after trying to get us to eat them and offered us the supplement of a fiver off our bill we asked that we have the meals replaced 30 mins later after i had eaten alone the new meals arrived still over cooked my son and his wife ate theirs but still said it was over cooked but they were hungry my husband refused his and the offer of another meal due to the time we had been in the dining room for over 2 hours and they were only just having main meal we were told the manager would come and speak to us but he dident we were treated quite differently after our 2nd complaint no one came to ask if we were ok or if we wanted another drink they kept watching us and saw we had finished our meals but did not come to clear the table or take a dessert order they made us feel so uncomfortable that we left the restauraunt i went to find the manager his name was Richard and defineately needs to brush up on his customer service skills he was the most arrogant rude and ignorant man i have ever met he disagreed with all our complaints and was argueing with us in front of other guests in the reception area he more or less called us liars and yet when challanged did not even know the first rule of customer service management which is the customer is always right we are leaving tomorrow even though we have booked in for another night also the heating is on the blink and its freezing we have been given a fan heater which is some compensation i supose we went to the haweswater hotel in last year which was fantastic defo going back there the assistant manager Karen was brilliant if you em decide to visit whitewater please dont complain they cant handle it thanks Paul for all your attention you were the best

As this review deteriorates into what is basically a personal attack I have taken advice from my superiors who consider that it is verging on slander. I always thought the idea of Trip Advisor was to post a review following a stay, having noted that this had been posted halfway during the stay made null and void any attempt at trying to put matters right on the second night of your stay, which we had every intention of doing, especially as you decided not to check out early.
We await Trip Advisors view on our stance as well as their view on certain parts of your posting.

“Great Birthday Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

A perfect treat for my wife from Groupon. We would never have considered this hotel original price above our normal budget. We had upgraded to River view Room, this was large and had all facilities.Food excellent Staff very friendly especially Paul in the Dolly Blue Bar.Pool Spa and Gym excellent.
On a less positive note Room was a little cool and Dolly Blue Bar was very Cold. Paul brought my wife a portable heater and kept us entertained.Food prices in this bar were high with little choice. We feel early bird menu in restaurant should be until 7.30 pm rather than 6.45pm.

We would recommend this Hotel and would stay again on an offer.

“Fabulous location but surprised by negative aspects”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012 via mobile

Booked through Groupon & paid extra £90 for Sat night & 4 poster room. Included dinner on first night. Paid £249 for 2 nights, which is roughly half price. Great situation & building. Welcome less so. Very distant & blah receptionist who gave us no info, other than where lift was. Given 3 keys on ring, with no explanation as to what other 2 were for. Room large, comfy furniture, view & nice looking bed but hardest, cheapest mattress & flat foam pillows. My husband can sleep on anything but even he complained about the mattressheating adaptor didn't work and it was a cold January! Nice tea/coffee supplies. Bathroom okay except no water pressure for shower. Spa area very nice but reception & changing rooms freezing. Wifi in room was very iffy, as weak signal, so kept drifting in & out. Unfortunately signs up saying no laptop use in lounge. Difficult when you run a business! Wifi for phones was non-existent in our room & many places in hotel. Restaurant had great menu & in general, served excellent food but had weird inconsistencies like majorly over salting - even salted my side salad! As you were miles from anywhere else to eat, decided to book dinner on 2nd night, to be told only for the Groupon voucher users who'd arrived that day! They'd 'closed off' the rest, whatever that meant. Argued the point that no one had told us this when we booked (had a bar that served light meals but not great) so restaurant manager called over, who said hadn't been aware of it being closed off, so we got a table (loads of empty tables). Now if it was a staffing issue, wouldn't you hire extra, if you were running a Groupon campaign and were booked up? Weird little things added up to put us off going again and without a doubt, it's not worth full price. We've stayed in much cheaper hotels where we've felt like cherished guests but not here (even before complaining about dinner). Shame as it was a great location & nice having pool.

“Perfect 2 night break from gloomy January”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I am shocked that the last reviewer was so negative about this lovely hotel. We stayed for two nights with a Groupon deal, our first, and the hotel was charming, comfortable and spotlessly clean. We had a 'standard' room but it was huge with a king size bed as well as a single bed. The one downside I felt personally was that the bed was a little hard for my taste and my back was a bit uncomfortable in the mornings as a result. The bathroom was spacious too and we had no problem with noise from the lift or other people coming and going. After reading some of the reviews I wish we had upgraded as the executive rooms do sound fantastic. I must congratulate the chef in the main dining room for the remarkable food - it's like Masterchef! We dined both evenings in the main room, had a drink afterwards in Dolly Blue. Both very nice although the Dolly was a bit cold. The pool and jacuzzi area is lovely, very relaxing after a busy Christmas period and the perfect pick me up! It had been raining a lot before we arrived and the river was in full flow, we got some lovely pictures of the small weirs along the river, there is a nice almost hidden walk which takes you under the Haverthwaite railway line and around the woods, we didn't complete it as typically I wasn't wearing the right footwear but who knows, another time..

Room Tip: Upgrade if you can.

“superb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Just had a two day break at the whitewater, superb, staff pleasant, food excellent, upgraded our room to have a view of the river, really pleased, couldn't fault anything, had just come from having a really bad experience at the de vere blackpool.
I would just like to mention, one of the staff that works at the whitewater his name is paul, lovely lad, really pleasant, always had a little chit chat when you had been out for the day, and so polite and well - mannered a rareity these days, and believe you me it does make a difference when the staff are pleasant. Anybody planning a trip to windermere, would certainly recommend the whitewater.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a river view well worth it
