“Warm and Welcoming”

Lowbyer manor was perfect for us as we had our little boy with us on our holiday. There is a bar downstairs and also a huge residents sitting room so we could put our son to sleep and ave somewhere else to sit. There were plenty of places to eat in Alston, all of which catered to families and a steam train ride through the country to while away an afternoon. The rooms were spotless, the bar snug and welcoming and Laura was so friendly and helpful that we would not hesitate to stay here again.

“A Haven of Individuality”

We booked the last available room at fairly short notice. I was drawn to the lovely patchwork quilts described on the website. It was a spacious room with a bath but no shower (not a problem for me). It was an early autumn weekend, a bit chilly and showery but the room was lovely and warm. Lowbyer is charming and unpretentious, a bit like Alston itself. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and our hosts polite and friendly. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. Wish I could have had a nosey around at all the other quilts. Maybe next time.

“A welcoming base”

Spent 2 nights here as our base for a long distance walk. Laura and Richard made us very welcome, even taking charge of our wet walking clothes, returning them dry in the morning, The breakfast was excllent and cooked fresh for us with high quality local produce. Lovely guests' lounge and made to feel very welcome.

Room Tip: Request a bath if you want one, we only had a shower and would have loved a long soak after our walk...

“Absolutely amazing !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

Just got back from our trip in the UK. My husband and I hiked a section of the Pennine Way, stopping at various B & B s along the way. After a very tasking 20 mile day of climbing Cross Fell and other peaks and valleys we arrived at Lowbyer Manor to be greeted by the pleasant news that our hosts had upgraded us to a better room. They felt we would want a warm tub after such a hard journey. We had also previously arranged to leave our rental car at the Manor for the length of our hike. Not only did our hosts graciously accept to keep our car, but they helped us arrange modes of travel to the start of our hike. Its all in the details and care and attention and our hosts lacked in neither. Great company, great food, beautiful rooms all in an amazing little village. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer.

“Brothers Ambrose July 7th - Quietly efficient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2011

Rooms were overpriced for what they were, for the prices charged we have had higher spec rooms on our travels. That aside, I found both Laura and Richard very attentive and accomadating. The lounge was lovely and generaly the house had a warm feel about it. Laura cooked us a great breakfast in the morning, catered for our needs and always had a smile on her face. I have no hesitation in recomending this establishment for walkers and all!

Room Tip: Ask what room you will allocated by checking against the website specifications
