“Lovely hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We have just returned from our weekend at this hotel. We got it on a deal from Moneysupermarket and it offered great value for money. Although, being honest, without any sort of deal, the rates are very high. We took our little dog and she was made really welcome by all the staff, which was a huge bonus. All the staff are friendly and polite. The room we stayed in was lovely, only gripe was that the bathroom radiator wasn't working and the heating only came on in the afternoon and when the weather is minus 3 outside it should be warm in the hotel. The whole place looks like it has undergone a refurbishment which is well done. The food is lovely and reasonably priced. The breakfast is second to none, with a wide choice of cereals, juices, yoghurts, fresh fruit, full english, toast with preserves etc, you cannot go wrong. The owner obviously loves Barry Manilow since the same cd was on repeat the whole weekend, which was funny. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return (when it's a little warmer!) and if we get another good deal.

“Lovely hotel and excellent service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

What a lovely hotel with lots of character and charm! We stayed in a junior suite and had a very comfortable night's sleep. The room was very spacious, clean and warm (even on a cold February night). We ate in the restaurant and even my fussy partner couldn't fault the food. Breakfast was a very nice affair with lots of choice and fresh hot food. The service was also excellent from the friendly staff throughout the hotel. Will definately be recommending this hotel to friends.

“Great hotel and friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

We have just enjoyed a 2 night stay on a kgb deal. Our room was on the top floor and was really comfortable, spacious and spotlessly clean, we had a lovely view over the fields. We ate in the hotel restaurant on one night. The food was delicious and quite reasonably priced, breakfast was very good too with plenty of choice. We could not fault the staff who were all very friendly and helpful. We will definitely go back if we can get another kgb deal or similar, I think the advertised tariff was a bit high though. Thank you to the staff for their friendly service.

Room Tip: Room 37 is a family room, very spacious with lovely view.

“Lovely staff and hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We stayed in January on a groupon offer, the main public rooms and the building itself are lovely. We received great service and could not fault the staff!
Our only criticism would be that the rooms need some updating, particularly the carpets and some of the wooden furniture. Efforts have clearly been made with new wallpaper and soft furnishings which are very nice. The bathroom was very clean and nicely done.
Overall we had a lovely stay and we would go back.

“Looks good but rather disappointing experience”

Stayed at the Wild Boar for two nights with my husband to celebrate my birthday. On arrival, we were very impressed. The outside of the hotel is beautiful and the hotel is surrounded by countryside. Our room was fine, with a comfortable bed and large bathroom.
We arrived late afternoon on Sunday and asked at reception for the times of the restaurant to eat that evening. We were told that the restaurant closed at 6.45pm on Sundays and was only serving Sunday lunches, so we asked for details of local pubs as we did not want to eat at such an early time. We found a nice place to eat, but it did mean that we had to drive as there is nothing within walking distance.
The next morning we had a decent breakfast(although avoid the coffee which was undrinkable) and then went out for the day. On our return we found that the room had not been made up and the hospitality tray not replenished. I phoned down to reception and said the room had not been made up and that we had no coffee or milk in the room. The man on reception said that could provide more coffee and milk so I went down to collect it as no offer was made to have it sent up, nor was any apology given for the lack of cleaning in the room. When I arrived at reception (two floors and two corridors away) the receptionist was on the phone and simply pointed at a pile of coffee sachets on the counter. Not really four or even two star service.
The restaurant was open until 9.00pm but when we looked at the menu, it was dated from the Sunday and was apparently the Sunday lunch menu. We asked for the Monday evening menu and were told that it was the one from Sunday. We decided to eat elsewhere but then, as my husband was not feeling well, he stayed in the room and I went downstairs to find a bar snack. First though, I had to find a member of staff in what felt like a ghost town. I did eventually find a young lady in the restaurant who served me with a snack and a glass of wine before disappearing again. She was very pleasant but the experience of sitting in a deserted bar with not another soul around was very odd. As it was my birthday, I considered another glass of wine but as this would have entailed another search for a member of staff, I decided to call it a night.
Now, I know that this was January when hotels are quiet, but surely all the more reason to look after those guests who are actually staying.
Would we stay there again?
No, I don't think so. There are so many hotels out there and our experience was not good enough to make us want to return.
