“Bar Food”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 May 2012

We called on at the Halford Hall for Lunch, the place was nice and cosy, the staff polite and helpful, the standard of food shockingly bad, Meal 1. Sunday roast pork dinner, off the shelf sliced pork, vegatables freshly defrosted and heated by the "chef" and served so hard you could hardly cut them, and completely tasteless which went well with the tasteless gravy.
Meal 2. Burger served with tomato and lettuce, thats a burger on a plain bun (not toasted) the tomato wedge laid alongside was a a credit to the chef (not many people can get twenty wedges out of one tomato) the bits of lettuce so small not really worth talking about, the Burger tasted good but was spoiled by the penny pinching, charge an extra 25p and make a decent burger

We have stayed here on a number occasions when we visit our friends who live locally. It's a great hotel with warm and friendly staff. Steph and the team make us feel really welcome every time.
The rooms are clean and attractive in decor. Breakfast is filling with a wide choice of options. Great value for money.

“Family room nightmare”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 April 2012

Stayed in room1, the family room with our young daughter. We have never experienced such an unpleasant night in a hotel anywhere. All through the night a very loud extractor fan motor kept coming on every 10 minutes or so, directly underneath our room, often it made the room vibrate as the motor/fan rattled and shook. For a couple of hours we attempted to get to sleep, but it was just impossible, so I went downstairs to try to investigate the problem but all the doors were locked and the place was in darkness. There was not a single member of staff on the premises to report the problem to. (There was just one small side emergency exit door to the car park open). We were not told about the complete absence of night staff when we checked in. There was no phone in the room, nor any emergency staff contact numbers. Very worrying. We endured a night of torture dozing, waiting for the dreadful noise to start again, being startled awake when it did start. It went on all through the night. We went downstairs every half hour from 5am thinking someone should come soon. Finally, just after 7am staff began to arrive. The receptionist told us they had had complaints in the past, the problem was related to the heating system, but the room had not been used in a while and they thought they had fixed the problem. This did not sound convincing. It was a very distressing night especially as we had our daughter with us whose sleep was badly disturbed too. How ludicrous that this terribly noisy room is the only family room. Another issue was a security light that shone directly towards the only window in the room, that kept coming on, through the night. Thankfully we only had to stay one night. We had a long flight that day from manchester airport so as you can imagine we were in pretty poor shape for a very long day of travelling.
No, we shall not ever return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid room 1 - the Family room

“Warm, Friendly, Value for money, the very best!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 April 2012

Just come back from a family break and we stayed at this hotel. By far this is the most comfortable, welcoming, experience. The rooms are a lovely size with excellent facilities. The food was delicious, the staff were very helpful and couldn't do enough for you. The grounds are beautiful with a large garden area. We will most definately be returning to this wonderful hotel. It is close to all attractions including Chester Zoo, Cheshire Oaks discount outlet, Chester Town. We would recommend this stunning place to anyone!
