I booked two rooms here direct with the hotel - full rate with a couple of weeks notice. We were en route from Surrey to Lancaster taking daughter to Uni. After a rough journey I was looking forward to a peaceful, quaint period hotel with a superior restaurant. Hmmm. There were the remnents of a wedding reception in the bar, i.e. a guy on his feet singing 'A Wild Rover' and about 20 people variously intoxicated and wreathed in smoke. It was 4pm and they were waiting for the evening do. We were shown to our rooms through this gathering. The rooms were just beyond the bar. We had been given the disabled room. No bath, a shower direct onto the floor with loo and basin adjacent. The rooms were tired and tiny. More importantly it was obvious that as soon as the evening function gathered strength peace and quiet would be impossible. The restaurant was closed because of the wedding, the bar might just have well have been. I went back to reception and asked for another room - and was offered the same exept it wasn't for a disabled guest. I phoned the nearest Premier Travel Inn, booked a couple of rooms and left.
The PTI was almost half the price; it was quiet and clean and Reception was pleasent and efficient. There was a decent restaurant with no smoking areas. My first experience of a PTI -for the money, excellent.
No one can blame a hotel for welcoming a wedding booking but in a small venue I think other potential guests should be forewarned.
