“Traditional English B+B offering great value and great service.”

This traditional English bed and breakfast is great value for money. £40 per night for double room including breakfast. The location is only £4 in a taxi from Ashton or Stalybridge train stations which in turn are only £2.50 / 15mins on regular train to/from Central Manchester. On arrival, late in the evening, I was greated by a friendly lady who made me feel very welcome. The room was warm, well equipped with a comfy bed, plasma TV, Tea and Coffee making facilities and a lovely en-suite bathroom. The room was a little small but for a solo traveller this made me feel more cosy, I had room 11. The breakfast was perfect in every way, buffet style with bacon, sausages, mushrooms, hash browns and beans, the toast and eggs were made to order. Fresh coffee, fruit and cereal also available. The breakfast times at weekends (08.30 - 09.00) is a little restrictive but I liked it because it meant all the food was fresh. I'm sure you'll love your stay here, especially at the price. Anyone who says different must be the really fussy, never happy type of traveller. PS...The WIFI was free and very quick.

“Absolutely fine - few problems, great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2010

Very friendly welcome and service all round; rooms in the main house are newly refurbished and spotlessly clean, with flat screen TV, free wifi, the works. Bathroom quite posh, and good quality furnishings all round. Interior of the public rooms is a little dated, but very traditional British guest house. Breakfast from a serve-yourself buffet with freshly-cooked egg is absolutely fine; again, very good service. All in all, for £35 for a single room, it's great value. Only downsides for me were a hard bed, hot room without the window open (and it's quite noisy from the road, so keeping the window open isn't ideal) and very thin walls (I could hear next door quite clearly!). However these were not major downsides, and I'd stay again if in the Stalybridge area.

“Very, Very Disappointed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2009

We had booked a double room in the main house in the spring of this year. I specifically requested not to be put in the annex as I had read the rooms were cold and damp. We arrived and were shown to a room in the annex which we declined. As all but one room was taken in the main house we were shown a small twin room and when I pulled down the sheets they were filled with hair and dirty spots. We immediately left the property having been there all of 25 minutes at most. Even though they did not provide the room as requsted months ago and acknowledged the hair in the bed they charged us for the night. We have since learned this property caters to single young people working construction in the area and not travellers which I wish I had known in advance. The price per room was about 55 pounds (very reasonable if it had of been clean) but we moved to the Village Hyde hotel to a lovely room for only 10 pounds more which was an absolute bargain compare to this property.
