This is a starkly modern structure just behind a McDonalds on the edge of Crewe....not quite in the centre of town but certainly convenient for the train station. Opposite is a car dealership and adjacent is a Tesco Express. You get the picture; somewhat commercial area with a somewhat commercial hotel.
Everything looks brand spanking new and there is a certain style to the structure with clapperboard fascia and curved ends suggesting an art deco theme. There is car parking at the rear with a convenient door to enter the main reception which is small but perfectly formed.
The room is adequate in size with a large double (two singles fixed together) bed, nice lighting that can be managed from the bed, moderate sized flat screen TV (Freeview), tea and coffee (no biscuits), a desk with a few power points and chair, full length mirror with a hair dryer beside. A single corner chair is a hint towards a suite, but the facilities for storing clothes are very limited....a few hangers and a single open shelf that is already being occupied by towels. The air con is fine but is does limit the head room in the area of the window, but at least this can be opened. Our room at the rear of the hotel backs onto a bowling green so no fear of being disturbed by rowdies.
The en suite shower room is OK with a loo, single sink with a tempermental mixer tap that often comes off in my hand, a handy razor socket, a heated towel rail and a decent sized shower with a shower head with limited movement, so fine if you are average height, not so fine if your are over 6 ft.
Breakfast is a buffet affair with a limited selection. The hot selection is limited to beans, fairly tasteless sausages and slightly dry scrambled eggs. The orange juice comes from a dispenser which seems to use a concentrate as it never mixes very well, and hot drinks from another dispenser. Bread rolls, croissants and sliced bread and facilities for toasting are next to the selection of cereals which seemed OK along with some orange or grapefruit segments and yogurts. Once again adequate but not inspiring.
There is a bar that seemed fairly popular in the early evening with a patio area overlooking the front which would have been great if the view was more appealing.
We tried one evening meal here. Beef burger and chips with some side salad. Once again OK but it had little flavour.
This is definitely a bolt hole for the short overnight stay. If you enjoy eating good food however come having eaten somewhere else as Crewe is a bit of a cuisine desert.
