“Chilly in Crewe Hall!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I stayed here for one night for work, and as you drive in, you do see the magnificent building which is Crewe Hall. I was disappointed that I was not staying in the old part of the building, but rather the new part - which is an exceptionally long way from the reception!

Nonetheless, the rooms are comfortable with ample space and facilities - staff are very accomodating and very friendly. My only complaint would be the heating - it was a chilly night in Crewe and the windows of the room fill a wall, so even the big curtains struggle to keep the cold out, and combine that with the heating/cooling system which is connected to the main hotel system and was noisy to heat up the room. This was too noisy for my preference for sleep, so I turned it off for the evening, expecting that the room temperature would not drop so significantly as it was connected to the hotel main system. Unfortunately, I woke up freezing in the morning as there was not any warmth in my room at all - but i fully expect that this was my own fault, but a warning to other travellers if you feel the cold - leave the heating on at night!

Was disappointed that I got two single beds pushed together and made invidiually, so essentially I slept in a single bed.

Room service was lovely, and the lady who served the food was most helpful and rang later to see if everything was ok with the food..

Overall it was a pleasant stay, with just a few minor points and would recommend that more staff are put in the restaurant for busy meal times as the staff look very under pressure and flustered at times, although they are always polite!

“Good hotel facilities restaurant lets it down”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Following a recent illness my wife and I were hoping for a pleasant weekend away at a good hotel which from its own publicity should have happened but the promised dining experience was lacking. There is only a brasserie in which to eat and the menu is functional but not flexible. If I was staying overnight on business then it was adequate but the prices for the type of food was expensive. Suggest that you read the hotel notes on dining very carefully because it does state what clearly what turned out to be our experience, but not what I expect from a 4 star hotel. Dining times were not convenient nor did the restaurant staff appear at all concerned about this

The overall experience from the hotel was that each part, weddings, functions, spa and brasserie were part of the whole but not conjoined into a happy experience so far as the treatment from staff to guests were concerned. Certainly the restaurant give the appearance that it exists for the convenience of the hotel guests and other customers rather than seeking to satisfy the needs and desires of customers. When this was drawn to the attention of the restaurant manager and the receptionist on leaving neither appeared too concerned about negative comment, the hotel must we presume not be in need of repeat business.

All in all a disappointing experience instead of a pleasant weekend away in the Cheshire countryside.

Dear Alan B,

Many thanks for taking the time to write to us with your comments and feedback with reference to your recent stay with us at Crewe Hall. I was sorry to learn that you had been disappointed with elements of your stay with us.

I have forwarded your comments and observations to the relevant heads of departments, in this case the Brasserie Manager and Front Office Manager. I have instructed her to use the feedback as a constructive training instrument and to use the feed back directly at her next training session. I have found this to be most helpful and generally has a good, strong, positive effect when presented in group forums.

If ever you are looking to return please let me know personally as I would be delighted to assist in ensuring that your next stay with us will be truly exceptional.

Kind Regards

“Weekend Break Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Recently had a weekend break at Crewe Hall. I have to say probably the best stay I have ever had at a hotel.

The hall itself is beautiful.

We had a room in the Modern part of the hotel and it was excellent, very spacious, clean, with a very comfortable bed and well equipped bathroom.

We ate at the hotel one evening and we were very impressed by the qualitiy of the food and the price, the only things on the menu that looked a little pricey were the Steaks.

Breakfast was self service but was very good

Undoubtedly what made this hotel stand out though is the attitude and helpfulness of the staff.

Absolutely every member of staff was so polite and helpful it made staying there a real pleasure.

Thank you very much

“Lovely hotel but restaurant too slow”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Stayed for two nights on a work function and the hotel is lovely. I used the pool and spa facilities 3 times in the two days I was there and was really impressed by them. My room was well equiped and spacious and had everything I wanted. On the first night we went to the restaurant and were told there would be an hours wait. We sat down an hour and a half later and the food took a further hour and a half to arrive. The restaurant didn't look overly busy so can only assume they were understaffed. The food was good when it eventually arrived but not worth a 2 and a half/3 hour wait. Aside from this the hotel staff were all helpful and friendly if a little over formal at times. Would definitly return but book for dinner!

Dear VFBirch,

I would like to thank you for your review on your recent stay at Crewe Hall.

I am glad to hear that you felt the leisure club was well equipped and bedroom comfortable and that the staff most helpful.

On investigation it appears that the Brasserie serviced more guests that were originally anticipated on the evening of your stay and although this should not be to the detriment of our guests this sometimes can be a variable we are limited in how we can control. This could have possibly contributed to the lengths of time you waited in between courses and I can only apologise for the inconvenience.

I will be sharing your comments with the team and I look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

“Excellent hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Hard to knock. Great facilities, nice rooms in either the new wings or old building. Magnificent setting, superb gym/health club etc.

I'd argue the restaurant menu is a little limited, especially if you stay there there quite often and don't fancy steak but that is about my only criticism. Good breakfasts too.
