I can't believe that I forgot to review this hotel and restaurant following our stay last December, especially as we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
We had dinner there on Christmas Eve and then, on the spur of the moment, decided to stay the night.
The dinner was fantastic value. Very reasonable price and great menu with a fabulous selection of wines and champagne (no wonder we decided to stay the night!)
The staff are friendly and very good at their job, the food is perfectly cooked and presented and the decor is reminiscent of an up-market French restaurant.
The bedrooms are fine, not the lap of luxury, but very good value for the price. And the location is quiet and peaceful with gorgeous views.
We'll probably repeat the experience again this Christmas as the whole experience was romantic and relaxing. Oh, and the breakfast was the best ever!

Chequers inn is off the beaten track but has a lovely mixture of the old, cosy inn with a larger, modern space attached for larger groups. A good selection of ales, wine and food. The room was clean, comfy with a modern bathroom. My partner had a lovely stay with a hearty breakfast. We would be happy to stay here again. Enjoy.

As reviews of Chequers are very dated and not too favourable, we would like to provide a more up to date review that commends the Chequers as an attractive venue. We chanced to come here a few years ago to attend a wedding and have returned several times as we have a son and family living in the area. We keep coming back for the charm of the old bar, the real ales, the comfortable rooms, the warm but not overwhelming welcome, the bar food and breakfast. Our continuing return speaks for itself.

This place is really difficult to review. I have been a few times for food and drinks in the bar, and each time the standard of service and food in the bar is different! This simply isn't good enough with the prices they charge. Chips have been soggy, bread stale, service slow. However, the staff are lovely, the bar very cosy and the overall environment extremely pleasant. It's always going to be a risk though going for an evening bar meal and drinks since you'll never know what you're going to get from one day to another. I haven't stayed the night so cannot review the rooms.
