“What a pleasant stay”

The Flycatcher Inn is the best hotel I experienced out of Cancun. We arrived at night. The town Santa Elena was further away from Uxmal than we thought, which made us keep worrying if we had missed the town or not. Finally, with the help from local kids, we found the sign of Flycatcher Inn by the road 261. After we saw the gate and the house of the hotel, we immediately felt safe and joy. The garden, the rooms, the decoration, everything looks beautiful. There is no internet in this hotel; actually, there is no wireless in the whole town. But you can spend your time enjoying the nature and reading books from the hotel hall room.

Besides we had a wonderful free breakfast in the hotel, we also enjoyed our dinner at Restaurant Chac Mool which is in a walking distance to Flycatcher Inn.There we had a delicious grilled chicken leg - Pollo a la grilla (charcoaled chicken marinated with sour-orange juice and black pepper) for 80 pesos. The chicken at Chac Mool tasted many better than the chicken from the pickled onion which is another restaurant in a short driving distance.

During the breakfast, we chatted with the hotel owner, a very nice mexican. He gave us maps and showed us the short cut to go to Campech.

“A gem in Santa Elena--very near Uxmal”

The hosts of this lovely B&B are warmly welcoming and the casitas are immaculate with a garden setting that provides privacy and quiet. Christine is an artist and the decor of the dining areas and casitas reflect her excellent taste. Santiago helped us visit the local Maya ruins, the wonderful new Museo de Cacao and the Loltun Caves which were great experiences. Chris and Santiago are great resources of local knowledge. They serve a full and delicious breakfast to their guests which features fresh local produce and a choice of wonderful egg dishes. We visited in early December during a cool streak of weather-- it was cold at bedtime in our unit because, of course, there was no heat source. However, the blankets kept us cozy through the night. On our second evening, Chris and the kitchen staff prepared a fabulous chicken escabeche dinner with homemade cheesecake for dessert. Sitting down with our hosts and four other guests to enjoy good conversation and a delightful meal was a highlight of our stay in Santa Elena. We would highly recommend this B&B to travellers to Uxmal and other sites in the area.

“A surprise retreat in Paradise!”

We loved, loved, loved our stay at Flycatcher Inn. Our only disappointment---we only had time for 1 night stay! Four women on a crusade to see as many ruins as possible--and Flycatcher Inn is a perfect location for traveling the Puuc Route. The four of us stayed in the Guesthouse Suite, which normally sleeps 3 I believe, but they pulled in an extra bed for us. The room is very large with space for a sitting area and a HUGE bathroom! Perfect for 4 women! The gardens here were lush and beautiful. Both Santiago and Kristine were absolute charming, informative & wonderful hosts! The breakfast was delicious. They offered the option of an evening meal, which we delighted in. They went out-of-their-way to serve us a special meal made with ground pumpkin seed (sorry, can't remember the name of the dish), resulting in Santiago searching for pumpkin seed throughout Santa Elena, only to find everyone was out of pumpkin seed. Santiago would not let us down, so he found a pumpkin left in his field that he had planted for the wildlife, picked it, scraped the seeds, roasted them and ground them -- just so we could enjoy this wonderful dish! Now that's going the extra mile for his guests! He also shared knowledge of a special temple site right on his land in which we could do ceremony. The four of us agreed we MUST come back for a longer visit. Very much recommended!!

Spent one night here after visiting ruins at Uxmal and Kabah. Little casitas set in a park- like setting with wonderful flowers. Welcoming hosts. Christine and Santigao provided lots of maps and other info for shops for the rest of our trip. Nice breakfast with good and plentiful coffee.

We are glad you enjoyed our lovely gardens. Some of our most exotic plants are in bloom at the moment. We look forward to WiFi internet service becoming available in our area. Kristine
