Although this hotel maintains a website, even communications in Spanish go unanswered. I've traveled in the Yucatan a fair bit so I always try to secure a room in small villages prior to departure. Yet, I was immediately taken good care of upon arrival at this little hotel without previous reservations. The owners are presently increasing the capacity by double of the number of rooms available...a second story has been added. Not a lick of English is spoken so make certain your language skills are up to the task. Coba is still very rural Mexico so anticipate barking dogs, crowing chickens and family disputes to be part of the experience. Directly next to the hotel are a Maya family who maintain all of the above to further enhance a genuine participation in the environment. Maybe not for everybody, but the tiny hotel at the bus stop is a dirt pit and the Villa on the lake is a money pit laying in wait for your tourist dollar (terrible restaurant!). During my first visit I needed to return to Tulum for a personal issue and the owner of Sac-be was kind enough to refund my already paid days that I'd be missing. Very kind!
Remember, until quite recently, this town was seldom visited. "Services" are simply not in existance. You can't purchase beer in the stores, asking for such will incite a dour look of disdain, and the restaurants close after the tour bus buffets are tidied up in the early afternoon. Bring what you need with you, spend a paltry $40 a night, visit the ruins and hot tail it back to Tulum or Valladolid.
