Grand Sirenis is luxurious and enormous. Hope you like to walk long distances. ;-) Overall, I liked the resort. It is very beautiful and relaxing. The food was out of this world. I enjoyed my meals and drinks very much. Unfortunately, the same can not be said about the service.
My room was not cleaned well, even despite me always leaving tips on the bedside table. In addition, I felt that I was treated poorly because I was traveling solo. I once was denied reservations at the Japanese restaurant because I was 5 minutes late. The family of 4 that came in after me was seated... In other instances some waiters were ignoring me and not being very attentive. I ate at the buffets but to get a drink (even water) a waiter must see you. In retrospect this was not a good choice for Solo traveler. Well, I will not be making the same mistake twice. ;-)
That said, if you are traveling as a family you'll have a great time. The resort is very safe with lots to do.
Tip: Don't buy ridiculously overpriced excursions from the hotel. You can get the same excursions for the fraction of a price if you visit Playa del Carmen and book through one of the vendors. I went with Easy Travel tours. It cost me $50 to go to Chichen Itza and Cenote. Another $50 for a tour that combined visiting Coba, Tulum and Mayan Village. At the hotel they were asking something like $150!
