“Paradise for All, except for Single Travellers”

Grand Sirenis is luxurious and enormous. Hope you like to walk long distances. ;-) Overall, I liked the resort. It is very beautiful and relaxing. The food was out of this world. I enjoyed my meals and drinks very much. Unfortunately, the same can not be said about the service.

My room was not cleaned well, even despite me always leaving tips on the bedside table. In addition, I felt that I was treated poorly because I was traveling solo. I once was denied reservations at the Japanese restaurant because I was 5 minutes late. The family of 4 that came in after me was seated... In other instances some waiters were ignoring me and not being very attentive. I ate at the buffets but to get a drink (even water) a waiter must see you. In retrospect this was not a good choice for Solo traveler. Well, I will not be making the same mistake twice. ;-)

That said, if you are traveling as a family you'll have a great time. The resort is very safe with lots to do.

Tip: Don't buy ridiculously overpriced excursions from the hotel. You can get the same excursions for the fraction of a price if you visit Playa del Carmen and book through one of the vendors. I went with Easy Travel tours. It cost me $50 to go to Chichen Itza and Cenote. Another $50 for a tour that combined visiting Coba, Tulum and Mayan Village. At the hotel they were asking something like $150!

“be prepared to walk alot”

Overall very good. To get the negative out of the way first - we were initially put off by the fact that there our room smelled like cigarette smoke and found out that there were "no smoking rooms", somewhat surprising in this day of concern for second hand smoke and health - no options, they sprayed the room to try kill the smoke but only masked for couple of days. Also we had expected king size bed but ended up with double beds(mattresses were hard) - made due as were told no guarantee as dependant on availability - hard to believe when the resort was so large. Other concern was the distance from airport - 1 1/2 hour (heard from others that ride was even longer).
Positives - snorkelling was very good, beach served lots of different taste with activities and quiet areas despite being fairly small given the size of the resort. Were both party and quiet pool areas as well. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Food - we enjoyed the a la carte restaurants - Brazilian and the Steakhouse, did not find the Italian to be as good. Buffets were good.
Lots of opportunity to get exercise with the amount of walking involved but that was good given what can happen to the waist line at all-inclusives. Definitely a family resort as there were lots of young children.
Enjoyed trip to Akumel to snorkel and see the sea turtles - we did it by taxi and on our own rather than through a tour - saved some money and saw the same as well as controlling our timetable.

Room Tip: building 29 was closest to the beach, request second or third floor to minimize noise in hallway.

“Had a GREAT time!”

We stayed at the Grand Sirenis January 28th - February 4th and had a great time. The resort was probably about 90% Canadian occupancy and let me tell you the Canadians are a crazy bunch, we had a greay time, aye! The property was a little larger than what we had expected but that was fine, gave me lots of room to walk in the morning. The grounds are very pretty and clean. The staff was friendly all the time. The food was ok, not great, but they have to try to please many palates. The room was large and very clean, Teo did a great job every day and left us extra coffee and water, etc.... The Spa is very nice and the staff was great, Francisco gives a fantastic massage! There are several pools but we hung out a one of the swim up bar pools, bar tenders were great and met a fun people everyday. Shows were good. Can't comment about the "night" life because we were ready for bed by 11ish everyday, getting too old I guess. All and all a fantastic trip and we will return!

“Awesome Wedding!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012 via mobile

@TaylorLauren - we had a Mirage Ocean View room and it was building 25 on the Mayan Beach side.

We had our wedding here for a group of 36. Wedding day was gorgeous and went without any major problems.
- we had our Rehearsal Dinner at the Brazilian Restaurant and it was tasty!
- Reception Dinner was at the Italian Restaurant and we had the Japanese menu - sooo delicious!!!
- our wedding ceremony was held on the private beach on the Mayan Beach side instead of the public beach set-up. Our wedding coordinator Elizabeth was awesome - kudos to you for everything!!
- the ceremony setup was gorgeous and we got the private beach as a complimentary upgrade, it was very nice!!

The resort was very nice, I must say. We were all worried about staying here based on the reviews, but you know what... It's nothing to worry about and our wedding and entire vacation was an awesome time!

We didn't have time to try the other a'la cartes, but we did try the Brazilian and El Rancho Steak House and it was delicious!
- we had a free romantic dinner at the French Restaurant but we had to skip out on it as we had other plans the entire week.

Our ocean-view room was very big, and no, it did NOT have the "hole" in the wall.
- our balcony doors were a tad bit hard to slide open but we managed, just gotta use your muscles ;)
- our bathroom was always spotless
- the telephone beside the bed was broken the entire week so we just used the one in the bathroom, no biggy. We didn't bother to report it as it wasn't a big issue for us.
- the tv wasn't working properly the first night, which one call to Maintenance fixed all our problems within 10 minutes and swapped out for a new tv.
- our mini fridge was always stocked, however our fridge didn't seem that cold but we didn't mind, since we just goto the lobby or beach bars anyways.
- our in-room safe/security box worked perfectly fine and no issues there.
- we got a free litre of Tequila in our room upon arrival, as it was a gift for ALL Transat travellers.

The icecream shop and coffee shop was a great bonus to this resort - mMMmmm!!!

Beach was a bit rocky, but it was still beautiful and nothing water shoes couldn't fix!
- we took some bread out to the beach, near the ruins, and fed the fish. Was awesome seeing them swarm you! :)

My husband and I did not get to relax as much as we'd like, but we still had a wonderful time and definitely will return! (possibly for our honeymoon!)

Feel free to message me if you'd like to see wedding photos :)

Have fun, don't sweat the small things, and just relax!!!

“Very dangerous slippery steps and walkways”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

I delayed this review in hope's the hotel would show some responsibility and acknowledge the very dangerous walkways and stairs when wet. I stayed here in October i must say the employee's were fabulous but management of this company has severely dropped the ball. When it rains at all this place becomes very slippery on its walkways and steps i personally took a really bad fall due to a poor walkway that i did send pics of to the hotel and a reply to a crash expert that told me these are very dangerous conditions and the hotel ignored. What they did was send me what looked like a mass email and inserted my name (noticed this cause of the gap before and after my name) denying any responsibility. The people were great the food was average and totally do not recommend any older people that cannot suffer a fall like i did with no help from management.I was very disappointed with their handling of this issue and witnessed other people falling in the front entrance of the building even when we were departing. Many resorts in this area recommend staying clear of this one. Blaine from Canada

Room Tip: Over looking the pool was our only bonus at this resort
