Spent a few days in Akumal at the Luna Azul, 2nd floor 2BR cond. We loved it, and as my youngest son stated, the beach in front "looked just like a Corona commercial".
The condo was kept very clean (not easy to do considering all the sand nearby), and was nicely furnished. The staff was friendly and the manager was very laid back, accomodated our request for an additional night without hesitation.
The only knock against it is the very poor plumbing, which is apparently a common problem in the Akumal area due to the poor condition of the local water & sewage plants. Purified drinking water is provided.
Great location, convienence store 2 doors down, romantic restaurant (La Lunita) nearby, awesome "swing bar" and restaurant "La Buena Vida" (favorite hangout for my 20-something sons).
All in all, a lovely place for a quiet vacation. Will return on our next visit to the Rivera Maya.

We have just returned from 2 weeks, staying at Luna Azul, Akumal. What a beautiful part of the Mayan Riviera; what a lovely place to stay while there. Luna Azul is located in the centre of Half Moon Bay in the Northern section of Akumal. The condo, along with other condos and villas, is situated right on a heavenly, quiet beach, steps away from the water and snorkelling on the reef with masses of fish and turtles.
Just across the street, there is an internet cafe, there are a few small grocery stores where basics can be purchased and 5 minutes along the road is a super "swing" beach bar; La Buena Vida. It is also a 5 minute walk to Yal Ku Lagoon; a beautiful place to snorkel.

The apartments themselves are just lovely. Large, open-plan, airy, nicely decorated, well maintained with perfect views of the bay and only 15 minutes walk to the little town. We had 2 bedroom/2 bathroom unit and the master bedroom and the bathroom can be opened up so that the ocean can be seen all the way through. We had a large balcony and enjoyed eating out there and swinging on the hammock. It was well equipped with everything that we needed. The management and staff were friendly and very helpful - we even had daily maid service - what a treat.

The only thing that stops me from giving an "excellent" review is that they could have provided better towels. They were thin and worn out (until the last day, when they suddenly improved). Also, we had some adventures trying to get the right water temperature. But these are just very minor quibbles and wouldn't deter me from staying there again.

I would definitely recommend Luna Azul to anyone travelling to Akumal.
