“Quirky but fun”

We returned last night from 8 glorious and sun-drenched days at the Be Live. We had stayed at an Oasis chain hotel in the Dominican Republic 2 years ago so we kind of knew what to expect. Don't let any of the negative reviews scare you. The rooms are a little dated, but the friendly staff more than makes up for that. They are all trying very hard and I give this resort 3 and a half stars for their efforts. The buffets were adequate, but didn't change much from day to day. We had very good dinners at both the Gourmet and the Brazilian ala cartes. A decent meal at the Asian, and the Italian not so much. The ala cartes have fixed dinner menus so I imagine the quality and menu change depending on which day you go. We had an ocean view room which was literally a stone's throw from the ocean. We were on the 2nd floor and slept with the patio door open every night, listening to the waves crash onto the shore. Our king size bed was VERY comfortable. The Mexican people are very hard working and were eager to please us. Despite media headlines, we never felt unsafe either at the resort or on the 2 excursions we took. For the money, it would be hard to find a better vacation. Give it a try.

“Relaxing Vacay Right On The Beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

First and foremost, this is a place to go to when you want to relax and de-stress. Not really a crazy late night party atmosphere as the night pretty much comes to an end at around 1am. With that being said... this was THE most relaxing, peaceful vacation I have ever been on.

The best this about this resort is that it is RIGHT ON THE BEACH. The shoreline was SO close to our 2nd floor balcony-- it was just dreamy. When they say ocean view rooms, they really mean it!

The food was average. The drinks were average. But the beach made up for that anyways. The staff were so helpful and kind. They really made us feel at home.

Beachlovers -- this place is for you. Soak up the sun.. swim/snorkel with a million fish until you get hungry and just walk a few steps back to the main resort.

This resort will forever have a place in my heart! No resort is perfect but I would rather have an amazing beach over having a gazillion types of booze. It all depends on what you're going for.

Hope to see you again sometime Riveria Maya!!

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms are awesome!

“Be Live Grand is awesome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

What a wonderful trip to the Riviera Maya. Be Live was a lovely resort, with really great staff. We were pleasantly surprised because we were'nt expecting much after reading all of the reviews. There were a few things that need improvement, as the hotel is aging, but the staff is always at work cleaning and maintaining the resort. Armondo, the hotel manager is amazing! He set up a lovely moonlit dinner for us on our last day. George the bartender is a blast...check him out on the rooftop bar after 11pm. The beach was beautiful...we snorkeled right off the beach and saw many colorful fish and reefs. I fell in love with the delicious fruit smoothies available in the pool bar. Try the Akumal smoothie. Yum! The food was good, especially in the gourmet restaurant. We ate the buffet for breakfast and lunch and made reservations for dinner each night in one of the five different restaurants. The reservations arent that hard to deal with. Just wait at 530pm each evening for a time either 630, 730 or 830. Beds were nice and soft. Grab your towel and chair as early as possible as it is true that they fill up quick and run out. We never saw anyone camping out on the sand, so people must have found chairs. Tons of French Canadian and Argentinian people here...we were the minority as amercians, so that was interesting. Oh! Do bring your own insulated mug for drinks. And just a couple bucks tip here and there goes a long way here. They don't expect it but do appreciate it. Overall, we had a wonderful expeience and can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Everyone said the oceanside rooms are totally worth it. We ended up getting a room overlooking the...

“Riviera maya”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Walking in didn't have a good impression, check in took forever , had problems with room it was a nightmare , the first room they put me in was horrible, it was away from the resort , water didn't work and toilet didn't flush well ..... Awful.... Wanted to change that night but they didn't have rooms available .... Had to wait for next day.... Finally better room, clean, but no wow factor....the last 2 days of our trip we had no hot water.... We figure maybe everyone taking a shower at the same time, but I retry at 11pm and then the next morning at 7am and still no hot water so a little disappointing when you have sand on you......

Service was terrible , ask for a drink and never came back .....to get a refill was forever.....

The only good thing was the restaurant food it wasn't, to bad, was surprise. The food court was average.

Night life ....boring

Went to coco bongo, amazing.... was the high light of this trip

Walking on the Beach was dirty and the ocean had lots of rocks.....

Riviera maya was disappointing, I don't see the hype people make ...... Cancun is much better and clean and the water is beautiful ......

The bottom line is we didn't pay much for this resort so we got what we paid for.

Lesson learnt .......
