“If this is a Holiday Inn, then short Holiday Inn shares quick”

This is an HI franchise operation, by some local Mexican operator. It shows.

The outside and the lobby are fine. But the room I had was dowdy, with makeshift repairs to the bathroom and plumbing. Open the faucet, and out comes 'water' — and the unmistakable smell of [---].

Dinner was OK-to-good; with a notably helpful waiter. Breakfast was inedible. There were 9 hot dishes on offer, all suffering from added Jalapeno peppers.

Yes — even in the scrambled eggs.

I managed to find some muesli mix which - once I'd filtered out all the peanuts - was edible. That was it.

Then the fun started; I couldn't check out. Every time they tried to put through one of my credit cards, it came back 'Rejected'. I phoned both my banks; both confirmed that they had not rejected any payments - because they had not received any payment request. It took 30 minutes then, and a further hour later on, before they had to admit that their connection to the credit card centre was not working.

Overall, Reynosa is one the nastiest maquiladora towns I've seen. And this hotel did not improve things much.

“Ewwww. That smell.”

This seemed like a logical choice for us. A safe, Americanized hotel chain that should be comfortable. On first inspection everything was fine. The hotel itself is of good grade. The outside areas are well kept, the lobby was nicely decorated. On first entering our room we noticed the nastiest smell like an over-run septic system. That smell was coming from the toilet, the shower, the sink. Apparently this hotel has problems with their sewer system. From the amount of money we paid for our stay we expected a complimentary breakfast at least. This hotel offers none. The pool area is surrounded by an army of mosquitos with nothing to keep them away. No citronella, nothing. Better hotels are around. Choose one of them and skip this disaster until they fix their issues.

“Nice Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2008

I booked this hotel for a visit with family in Reynosa. The hotel was in a good location. Rooms were very nice. Above Average compared to other hotels I have stayed in and I have stayed in a lot for work. The staff was very friendly, as we had 16 of us in 4 rooms. I don't know how many keys we de-activated over the course of 4 days, but every time we needed something from the staff, it was done with a friendly smile. The pool was closed the first day we arrived, but it was promptly opened the next afternoon. The pool was small, but was very refreshing in the midday heat. The restaurant staff was very helpful. They even opened the bar so we could have some drinks during the afternoon by the pool. We felt the breakfast buffet was over-priced at $13.00 per person for food that was average. Overall, we had a great experience at this hotel and are planning to return next year. PS. Even though there are ashtrays on the 2nd floor, It is a Non-Smoking floor.

“Fair Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2007

Not a bad little hotel. Everyone was helpful and friendly. Most of the FrontDesk spoke English.

The only downside is in the restaurant the menu is all in Spanish. There is no English menus like in other Holiday Inn's.

“first time visit”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2007

The hotel is in a pretty good location across from the mall. There are several fast food type places inside the mall and it's a great spot for lunch. The hotel restaurant is SLOW. The food is good but order room service if you want to move quickly. It only took about 20 minutes. I had to ask for extra bottled water in the room but they provided it with no problems. The hotel staff spoke enough English that we could communicate. The internet connection worked fine. I will stay here again when in the area.
