“Not your typical Holiday Inn (Overcharged and Bad Service)”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2010

Ok..where do I start.

First the negatives:

1. First of all I'd like to say the "Classic" rooms by the pool are small, old and poorly maintained. I was told later that the "Executive Rooms" were bigger and newer. Wish I had known this before I made the reservation. I was moved to 3 different rooms during my 4 night stay. The first room Rm. 116 had an outside light directly in front of the window with a drape that could not stop the light from seeping in (poor design)...so I asked to be moved the following day. The front desk was accomodating so they moved me upstairs to rm. 212. Rm. 212 had a leaky toilet where everytime you flushed, water (quite a bit of it) seeped out of the bottom of it causing a mess in the shower (disgusting). We called maintanence that evening, but they never showed up. We were finally moved to rm. 214 the following day, and that room was ok for the remainder of the trip.

3. Music played at the pool past 1:30am! Every night, music (load enough to hear in your room) was being played by the pool. When calling the front desk, they said it was programmed to come on and off and "could not turn it off". My question is, if the pool closes at 10pm, why doesn't the music shut off at 10pm!! This made for a very hard night's rest.

4. When we checked in, we were told local phone calls were 69 cents each USD (or the peso equivelant.) Found out at checkout they were $1.00/min USD! We had a $20 phone call bill at the end of our 4 day stay.

5. Poor service. Had four people in my room (2 adults, 2 children) and only had 3 towels, so I requested a fourth. The front desk informed me they would drop it off. It never happened until 6:15am the following morning!!

6. Poor Service again at check out. The front desk took over 30 minutes to check me out (there was no one except me checking out). They couldn't get my bill right (and still isn't right), plus insisted I pay for a broken iron ($30). I had a guaranteed rate of $90 USD + 18% tax and they billed me for $94 + 18% tax, plus $20 in phone calls, plus a broken iron.

The only positive:

Breakfast was good. Great service to my family and lots to choose from.

Overall Rating: Poor. I would say the WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE EVER! Definetely not up to par with the hotel maintanence quality and service level of any Holiday Inn I have experienced in the US. Now many people will say "this is Mexico, this is expected". Not when you are paying over $100 USD a night. If I wanted a $50/day hotel, I would have booked one.

I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone and will not be returning. I hope the management is reading this review and can seriously fix their customer service and their rooms!

“Pay a little more to be off the busy street.”

Driving from Nogales to Mazatlan, Ciudad Obregon is a pleasant midway stop for the night. The Holiday Inn is impossible to miss on Miguel Aleman y Allende. This is a small, not at all new, property but well maintained. We've stayed here twice and found a slightly more expensive ($70.00) room facing the pool very small but nice with an excellent bed and pillows. Quite clean. On a second visit we booked the best available rate from Holiday inn's website and were shown a room right on the bus bus street ($60.00.) We asked for a room in back and were given a quieter room at the same price. Acceptable and very clean, but the safety lock had been ripped from the door and the regular door lock was shaky.
It is great to get up in the morning to find one's car safe and sound, in their very secure parking lot and already washed (30 pesos much appreciated by the car wash person.)
Right next door are two great restaurants, seafood and Spanish, under the same ownership.

“Ice Cold Water and lots of wasting time as a result”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2009

I am at this hotel right now! There seems to be no hot water in the entire hotel...

After traveling all day I looked forward to a shower and the water was so cold I could barely get wet. The front desk offered me a different room in the morning. Now I am in the new room and same deal. Too cold to use the shower. I checked the common area restrooms on the first and second floor meeting and restaurant areas and they have no hot water either.

Which makes me think... handwashing, dishwashing???

I made my reservation through trip advisor advertisor hotels.com and got no help by the way. As a matter of fact she was insisting that my reservation was at the Quality Inn. I asked her to spell Quality Inn and I hung up after H....O......L.....

“Just what I expected”

Ive been traveling a lot to Obregon, business related, and everytime I try to stay at a different hotel to see by first hand my options; and right one, this might be the best option in town.
The rooms have exactly what I needed, comfortable bed, spacy bathroom, HIGH SPEED internet acces for FREE wich I personally loved, and also they have a business center with a couple of computers and a little meeting room that you can use for free also.
The food was very good, staff could use a little more english.
Defenitly will come back because the manager told me that they are going to "upgrade" everything at this Holiday Inn.

“OK Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2007

I travel to Ciudad Obregon regularly on business and always stay at the Holiday inn as it is the best in town. There are multiple room floor plans to choose from that vary in cost and location in the hotel.
The hotel is located on the main street which makes the noise level very loud. I always run the a/c fan constantly to drown out the noise. Wireless internet is available for free but it's a weak signal and slow. The food in the restaurant is OK but the service is bad. Little English is spoken but anyone should be able to get by. My biggest complaint is that the beds are as hard as rocks and the pillows are flat foam which doesn't equate to a good nights sleep. One other tip is to make sure that you do not get a room on the front side of the hotel as the lights shine in your room till all hours plus the traffic noise to boot!

  • Disliked — noise, rock hard beds, foam pillows
