We stayed at the Rodavento on Oct 14-16, 2011, and had an absolutely wonderful time. We have two young kids, aged 4 and 8, and they attended the kids club on the Saturday, and were thrilled. They did zip lining in the high trees, wall climbing, kayaking, and games. The folks taking care of the kids were fantastic, as were all the activities. On the Sunday, we went on a lovely horseback ride through the hills, and it was magical.
The hotel is quite unique. Individual cabins are spread throughout the trees on a hillside, overlooking the lake. Our cabin was #1, and it felt like we were in a treehouse.
There is a loft for kids to sleep in. Ours loved it, but we brought them down after they fell asleep because we were worried they might fall down. There were two queen sized beds which were very comfortable; a lovely bathroom; and a wood burning stove that very quickly warmed up the cabin, and gave off a lovely smell. The porch was fantastic; you could reach out and touch the birds.
The main building is a short but steep walk away; fantastic pool (very much heated), lake, patio, and lounge/restaurant area. The service was largely impeccable, even though there were a lot of people. The food was good, and the setting was really gorgeous; we felt like we wanted to spend all day just sitting in the lovely great room, and looking at the trees and water.
This is not a cheap destination: 350 USD for one night, plus food, although we're told there are cheaper deals on Expedia. Still, compared to what one gets for the price in the US or Canada, this was really marvellous. It's a luxury hotel with a "in the woods" theme, and for families with kids, it was absolutely perfect.
Highly recommended!
