“Do not stay at this dump of a hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2010

The place has nice exteriors and beautiful gardens. The rooms have the quality of a bad and cheap road motel. The noise is terrible. They have weddings in the garden that end at 3am We had to try to sleep with the drums of the wedding noise under the pillow.
The rooms are filthy and there is humidity on the walls. There was no tv in our room and later I discovered that other rooms had it.
Complaining the next morning led to nothing. They told me almost that it was my fault that me and my family could not sleep.
The food at the restaurant was quite mediocre.
I was with a family wedding party at another Hacienda nearby. The experience of all of them was the same.
Besides they have the quality of a bad road motel and the prices of a Four Seasons.
Avoid staying at this hotel like the plague

incredably historic and interesting. The grounds are awe inspireing and the pool is so beautiful I wanted to strip down and jump in naked on principal alone. It is a true Spaish Haucienda and if you want to sit at and use incredable pices that really should be in a museum, then this is it.
I could definatly see getting married there or an incredable family reunion. I heard there is horse back riding around there but thats as far as I looked into it.
The beds do leave somthing to be disired but this isn't a plush spa. It is a unique experiance hotel. I only stayed one night but I could see staying two nights. The tavern is only open friday, saterday and sunday but it looks like a great place for a beer or wine.

“Good for a lunch/brunch visit - or maximum one night stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2010

Hacienda means no comfort, hard beds, moisture in rooms since all it is is brick walls,
large property with horses, Not for people with allergies or astma!
We stayed for 2 nights - just to relax, but besides the oversized pool (up to 9 feet deep) there is nothing else to do. We stop there on our way to taxco, the silver town, and one night would have been plenty. We where the only guests on monday and tuesday... They had a tourist bus come for a visit one day with 10 people - it's an interesting property to visit and have brunch or lunch buffet, but than i would recommend to be on your way. No aircondition in our unit, no TV, no entertainment here or in the small "mexican restaurannt strip" down the street.
There are 2 more hotels "lake location" one is brand new with room rates of $200+ and one run down place... 4 local restaurants on the street (one sushi place) - no bank.
The lake had no activities during our stay (advertised water skiing) - pretty dead place.MeuterMedia

“Very nice and historic hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 July 2010

This is a very old hotel, because was build by Hernan Cortez many centuries ago to be his residence. So you need to expect old rooms, some have A/C and TV but some not. So you need to ask for the ones that have them. All rooms are complety different in size and shape.

This hotel has one of he best pools in the area, it is really large and incredible. The only problem is as many if not all hotels in the area they will not heat the water. Soo be prepare to swim in very cold water. Not a problem because usually weather is really hot.

They have a spectacular restaurant. The food is average.

“Lovely property, great rooms, food service needs work”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2009

Visited with my wife and mother. Enjoyed the quiet at one of the more secluded pools as the kids screaming and yelling at the main pool were annoying to say the least. Service is friendly and genuine but, the food was only fair.
The restaurant has the right "ambiente" but the food lets it down. Caesar salad made with loads of mayonaise (YUK), drinks are exhorbitantly priced (3 USD for a small bottle of water) and food service staff intersted in large tables and ignoring smaller parties. I guess they tip better ????
I would recommend it but suggest you try somewhere else if you like the good food you can get in this part of Mexico.
