“Very nice hacienda, food and room overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

Last weekend I stayed again at the hacienda vista hermosa. This restored former sugar cane hacienda is situated in the state of Morelos, about 2 hrs from Mexico city. Therefor it fills up in the weekend for weddings and some people just escaping the city. If you go in a weekend, be warned that 99% sure there will be a wedding going on in the night. It is really a beautiful place with its old buildings and gardens. The rooms are (too) price for what they offer (almost 1900 MXN): basic rooms with some lack of maintenance, no TV, wifi or whatsoever. Fine with me, I do not miss it. But hey, you are in a real old hacienda, so you basically pay for the location. You can stay for less in other haciendas in the area (Cocoyoc, San Antonio Puente). The food is also far too expensive and of an very average quality. Breakfast buffet costs even more than a buffet in the Marriott in Mexico city (280 MXN). Lunch buffet comes at 350 MXN for 2 person together and is OK, For the rest the hotel offers 2 pools, a tennis court, a game room and a mini golf course.

“WOW What a beautiful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

Now this is a bit different to the usual hotel, each and every bedroom is different, mine was a reasonable size, olde worlde, with a forboding picture on the wall above my bed!!, the shower was one side of a dividing wall and the loo the other. One person in our group reckoned she felt the vibes - it is very spiritual. Another person in the group had her own private swimming pool and sun loungers . The restaurant is terrific with trees growing through it, breakfast was very good. sadly only spent one night here.

“Sick as dogs!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2011

It's true, the place is gorgeous and very historical. Although the rooms are the quality of a cheap motel. Not only that, when I stayed I traveled with family, ages 23-80, and we ALL had food poisoning! I mean every single one of us, sick as dogs for several days! TERRIBLE experience for a "luxury" hotel.

“Incredible property but so so Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2011

As an American, staying at this 16th century property was a unique experience to say the least. It's immense with ponds, exotic birds, extensive caves, a bullfighting ring and on & on. The pool was about twice the size of an olympic pool with a shallow area for the kids. We took the breakfast buffet package. Selections of both Mexican and American items were fresh and plentiful.

As a hotel the managers have a challenge since the buildings are literally ancient. It rained both days of our stay. The first night the roof leaked and we had a steady drip just outside our son's crib. My wife complained and they moved us to a smaller but more modern room without a leaking problem. I understand that you need to allow for a few issues when staying at a 16th century hotel. My only complaint is that many items such as bathroom door latches, loose faucets, etc are items that could be easily addressed by basic maintenance. If I had a screwdriver and an adjustable wrench I could have walked around the property and found a dozen items to quickly fix. They have many employees to handle luggage, etc, but should focus more on maintenance. A little goes a long way.

Even with that, I recommend everyone experience this property but don't book it for more than a couple nights. It is a "must see".

Room Tip: Room 110 was great but the roof leaked. Room 113 was more modern but smaller. Both were plenty large...
