Recently, I have been traveling often to Mexico to visit my Mexican boyfriend. As I only get a couple of weeks off, on this occasion we decided to steer clear from the typical beach resorts (we normally end up partying too much in Acapulco or Puerto Vallarta with my boyfriend’s mates and having only little time for ourselves), so we were looking to spend most of our holidays in a quiet place where we could relax and feel closer to each other. This is how we came across with hotel Ixhi’s website. This is a rather small, but very cozy hotel located about 1 hour away from Morelia, in the colonial town of Patzcuaro. The photos of the lake and the surroundings on the hotel’s website appealed very much to us, so we decided to take a five-day holiday package for two people for about 160 dollars.
The package was a good bargain, it worked out at 32 dollars per day for the two of us and it included a nice breakfast every day! To be honest, for that small price, we were not really expecting very high standards in our hotel, but we were gladly surprised to find out that despite the modest price we had paid, we were really enjoying of a rather stylish and very comfy hotel. We weren’t disappointed either by the views, which were very amazing indeed. When visiting this hotel ask for the sunset room, we found it very comfortable and tasteful. It has a terrace with an incredible view over this island located in the middle of the lake. We normally used the terrace to chill out in the evening while sipping wine and watching the sunset over the lake. It is also worth booking a body massage and a romantic dinner. According to my boyfriend the dinner that they specially prepared for us was meant to be aphrodisiac -No complaints about it :-)
Neither I, nor my boyfriend had visited Patzcuaro before. The town turned out to be delightfully charming and has an old-fashioned flair that we found very interesting indeed. Thankfully, it took us only 8 minutes on our bikes from our hotel to the town’s centre. There is a colourful market right in the centre of Patzcuaro, stocked with handcrafts and organic fruit and vegetables. It was a feast for our eyes! I also recommend to try an ice cream, there are plenty of ice cream shops near the main square, and according to my boyfriend the ice creams of that region are famous all across Mexico, rompope ice cream was my favourite. The only thing I regret is not having flown over lake Patzcuaro, but that gives me a good reason to revisit the town.
