“A great choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Have stayed here before, as have friends, & never been disappointed. Directly facing the beautiful Plaza Quiroga, which is the center of activity. Next door to the best coffee shop in Patzcuaro, which not only open early, unlike many other places, but also has great meals throughout the day. No need to fear rooms facing the street & plaza here, since Patzcuaro is not a late town, & you can get a good night's rest & still have the view. Public areas are very pleasant & well decorated, & housekeeping is a definite plus. Spotless, with daily linen changes. We return to Patzcuaro regularly, & will always consider Los Escudos a top choice.

“On my favorite Plaza”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

I wander into this little gem by accident as I had intended to stay across the plaza at Posada San Rafael a good but only average hotel.
When I saw the posted rate of 350 pesos w/fireplace I knew I must check it out.
My room was absolutey immaculate with 2 double beds, a huge bay window that overlooked the lovely inner courtyard, a vanity table w/light, cable TV (small), magnificent brick fireplace in the corner along with a large basket of wood.
Bathroom small but adequate with lots of hot water.
The beds were firm but very comfortable with excellent pillows. Towels large & thick but alas no washcloths which is typical in Mountain Mexico.
Location could not be better with the cafés & coffee spots just steps away.
With the peso at 14 to 1 this gem only cost me $25 US per night. For two add $10 US.

“Very comfortable Hotel...Great location! Affordable!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2010

This is the second time I have stayed at Hotel Los Escudos with friends. Very nice, quaint hotel! Love the location! The first time, we were so cold in our room..until we realized we could ask for a heater to be brought to our room. Very comfortable after that! The second time, we asked for a heater right away, but would have been fine without it. In spite of being right in a main square, was very quiet at night. Since we are rarely in our room, we would rather save the money on a room as long as it is adequate , and have more money to spend on treasures! Will be staying there again, and will recommend it to my friends.

“Average hotel with excellent location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2009

Stayed here in August 2007. Patzcuaro is one of the most enchanting pueblos I've seen in Mexico and a great great place to have shopping: its artesanias are excellent and very convenient!!! The best about Hotel Los Escudos is clearly the location, right in Plaza Grande. The hotel is old-charming, with well kept patios. Our room was big and clean, although being right beside of the reception we had to keep close the window overlooking the corridor. Maybe that is why it was a little bit wet and cold. Staff is friendly. Would recommend this hotel to groups.

“Great Place to Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2008

We arrived in town and looked for a place. I checked several and this was N$300, which was quite reasonable. The room had a lovely courtyard, was on the painted zocalo (where they were doing the dance on the old men). It was clean, comfortable and quiet.

There is a portico where vendors set up in the evening and there are great impanadas, coffee and tacos available. Folk were playing chess and visiting. There is also a resturaunt at the hotel. We used it as our base of operation for the entire trip. There was also secured parking about 2 blocks away included in the price of the room.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The desk staff spoke enough English to make up for my poor Spanish. We are looking forward to our next trip to Michoacan and hope to stay longer this time. 10 days is not enough.

  • Liked — The charm
  • Disliked — The folk in the resturaunt were not as friendly as everyone else.
