Have been familiar with this property since it opened several year ago, though this was our first stay. Unfortunately, ownership seems to have no plans to keep it updated. As other reviewers pointed out, there are lots of problems with the property. We had 2 rooms, & after 2 days we checked out & went elsewhere --- as did at least 3 other couples who checked in when we did, & who also left after 1-2 nights. No water at all came out of the hot water tap in the bathroom sink. Only a small trinkle in the shower. Bed linens were old, worn, thin, discolored & unpleasant. HUGE fireplace in the open, & visually stunning lobby, but employees were not allowed to start a fire --- though we were there during one of the coldest spells in recent Mexican history, & the hotel (like MANY in the area let me add), has no heating. Employees kept telling us they (quote): "Had no wood" ---- even though there was a 3 foot high stack right next to the fireplace hearth. A guest arriving the 2nd day of our stay merely started the fire himself, as he had done on 2 prior visits he stated, & the employees seemed to enjoy the heat has much as the guests. However, when the initial wood burned down, the employees were quick to put it out & not allow it to continue ----- which is obviously what they have been instructed to do by management. On the 2nd night when the other guest started the fire, it attracted a group of 10 persons from outside, who entered & asked to order drinks from the bar, which sits directly adjacent to the fireplace. Unfortunately they were told that no drinks could be provided, so they left disappointed. The place seems to have lacklustre, at best, management, though individual employees in the restaurant, housekeeping & front desk are super. Polite, courteous & eager to help --- just constrained by clueless management/ownership. Rooms are VERY rundown after all these years, with busted lamps, torn/cracked & dirty lampshades held together by coat hangars, & the upholstered furniture in the rooms have apparently not been cleaned since originally being placed there. Very dirty & soiled. Posted double rates were 800 Poses, but we were only charged 650 since tourism is seriously diminished. Walked 1 block & got superior accommodations for 480 Peso, including a great breakfast. Wish management & ownership, were as good as the individual employees working there. Would not return, since there are far better options all over Patzcuaro, which is one of our favorite Mexican communities.
