“Great staff, reasonable rates, clean and comfortable room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2009

I was delayed in my return to Mexico from the U.S. and ended up alone on Christmas Eve at Las Palmas, half an hour after their restaurant had closed. I was tired and hungry and...well, at least there was room at the inn! The front desk staff called and found a restaurant that would deliver, and within the hour I had a hot meal. They said I might not get wireless Internet in my room, but it worked fine--and if it hadn't, there's a computer in the lobby for guest use. In the morning, my car wouldn't start, and even though it was Christmas Day, they had a mechanic on staff who came with jumper cables and got me on my way. This is the first "nice" hotel you will see coming south on the cuota from Saltillo. It's got everything you need, and it's safe and well lit. There is a miniature golf course and an outdoor pool, so if you have kids, this is definitely the place!

“It's a trip back to the Golden Age of motels in the 50s.”

We made reservations with this motel by phone based on the previous reviews. What a surprise. My family travel ed extensively in the 50s when motels were at their peak. This was like a trip back in time right down to the bicycle paths and the runner who led us to our cabana. The cabana was decorated in a sophisticated Mexican style, no heavy dark wood , iron, or red velvet. The grounds were lovely with beautiful landscaping and a classic large pool. The restaurant was outstanding with meals that had to be prepared by a chef. Worth every dime.

“Safe and clean but expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2009

I've stayed at Las Palmas going back to the 1970s and have never had a problem other than (once) having a shortage of hot water. The price was reasonable, there was safe parking, and the restaurant was clean and safe. It appears the hotel has changed policies: there is a surcharge for a second person (100 pesos) and the currency exchange rate was about 8% lower than the "official" exchange rate. Even the toll booths (that accept dollars) gave 12.50, and the convenience stores OXXO exchanged at 13.05. The room was larger (unimportant), the TV reception was poor, and the parking wasn't as good as it used to be. Plus, the price is now about 1,000 pesos, not what I would call a bargain - unless you want a cold swimming pool or miniature golf. Las Palmas is safe, clean, and convenient, but next time I'll go into town and find something much cheaper.

“Good Choice!!!”

Enroute from San Antonio TX to Lake Chapala, Jalisco area, we spent one night at Las Palmas Midway Inn. I had no previous reservation and simply stopped there. The young man behind the desk was very courteous and helpful, even taking the time to come out from behind the desk and to show me how to use the Telmex card phone.
The room was very clean, lots of hot water in shower, and had excellent AC, and cable TV with some English language channels. Not Marriott style rooms, but definitely as good, or better, than a Day's Inn. We had room # 171 which was to the back in the older section. We could park right next to the room. It was very quiet there. Paid $66.10 including the tax for 2 double beds/2 persons.
Their restaurant is excellent and prices were not bad, especially the breakfast menu. Coffee was non-stop and soooooo good!
Large and well manicured grounds. Very large and well maintained swimming pool.
I would definitely stop there again.
By the way, right across the main street is a Walmart. It was a real treat to go through the store and see the many differences from Walmart at home. All the way in the far left back corner is a bakery with very good fresh baked treats. I bought some for the road, along with small packages of wonderful mango juice and orange juice. Also, it is amazing to see the selection in Mexican stores of various types of yogurts and yogurt drinks. Throughout Mexico, I found food to be very good and quite inexpensive. And people are very kind and friendly!!!

“Nicest Place in Matehuala :)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 May 2005

I have had a few 1 week stays at the Las Palmas, and it certainly looks to be the best place in Matehuala to stay. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with a motel/cabin type atmosphere. The grounds are always immacluate, and the service is top notch. The mini-golf course is a little like a painted piece of concrete in the desert, and I have yet to venture off into the 1700M walking/biking trail. They do have a bike rental if want to try it, and the pool is large and always looks fairly clean. The restaurant is really quite nice, and not to expensive. Mexican eggs and hotcakes are the best anywhere. The head waiter Roberto gives top notch service. The only drawbacks are the Air Conditioning units even though outside, are a little noisy, and the endless stream of trucks on the NAFTA highway means you'll never have total quiet. But hey, it's Matehuala.
