“Warmth and charm of a B&B with the cleanliness, amenities and service of a 5-star hotel.”
My fourth stay at Casa del Sol and I fall in love with it more each time I stay there.
The Rooms
I've had the opportunity to stay in various rooms on both floors on my many stays and wow, each one has it's own breathtaking view. The rooms are superbly decorated, spacious, with super comfy beds (if you get two beds they're not doubles... they're queen size!). The bathrooms are a fave with gorgeous Mexican tiles and al fresco details on the walls. Great water pressure and lots of fluffy towels. Large screen TV with Mexican and American channels (though you probably won't be watching much if any television while in Ajijic!).
The Service
Cathy, the owner and host is a true professional. She has done such an amazing job on this inn, with such an eye to detail. If you are looking to experience Mexico even in your accommodations, then this is the place to soak in the Mexican art, chandeliers, mosaics, al fresco paintings and warm and friendly service. Everything is spotless and runs on time. The morning breakfast selection is fresh and yummy. You can even pick up some delightful items in the gift shop.
The Location
No need for a car or taxi. I've looked at various B&B's in the area and Casa del Sol has bar none, the best location. You're only two blocks from the 'zocalo' or main square, I've walked at night and even then it's an easy walk. Just wear flat shoes ladies, it's all cobblestone and high curbs in Ajijic! The inn is located on a quiet residential side street. If you go up to one of the two 'miradors' or rooftop patios you will enjoy the incredible views of the mountains, the church steeple and the lake.
The Value
You'll be paying B&B prices but getting a top star hotel experience. Lots of privacy, cleanliness, spaciousness, authentic Mexican decor - and an incredible pool! Clean, well taken care of, this pool is an oasis surrounded by walls of flowers. If you need to cool off enjoy one of their signature blue margaritas and chill out under a patio umbrella. And you won't need to worry about calling a city taxi because they can arrange for Miguel (or one of their other drivers) to chauffer you to the Guadalajara airport and I believe the charge is the same.
Let's just say that I'm such a fan of Casa del Sol that I'm hosting my pre-wedding party there (talk to Cathy about special events, she ROCKS) and we'll be filling out the place with wedding guests in May 2010!
