Stayed 4 nights in Buena Vista. We were the only 4 guests for our 1st night. Seemed that we took a step back in time. This is good and bad. Loved the fact that it was quiet with a beautiful beach and good food.
The place grows on you. The longer you are there the longer you want to stay.
Negative points - staff can be more friendly and more knowledgeable with guidance to activities.
The rooms are dated and the whole resorts needs an update.

My wife and I took a 2 day trip from our week in San Jose. The HBV enjoys a great location directly on the beach in Spa Buena Vista. The property is beautifuly landsacaped with mature palms and flower. The rooms are all single story cottages or bungalows. While the rooms are dated, they were clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the pool and pool bar. The water comes from a mineral spring up the hill and felt great. Our plan included breakfast which we enjoyed outside on the patio overlooking the ocean. We took long daily walks on the magnificent beach. Most of the hotel guests came for the fishing. We intended to go diving but it was canceled due to high winds. This is a relaxing quiet place off the beaten path.

We learned of this location from friends that frequent this place for over 20 years. My boyfriend loves to go fishing and I thought I would go along with him and try it out. I did not know what to expect. Needless to say I had an amazing and adventurous time! In the morning we would get up have a delicious breakfast and then head off to fish. My first day I caught Yellowfin Tuna , the second day more Tuna and some Dorado. Our boat also cuaght Pargo & Red Snapper...such a variety of fish out there.
Once you return from fishing the hotel staff would prepare some of your catch and for have dinner.
This is a great family friendly Hotel. The staff and owners go that extra mile to make sure you feel at home. They do everything possible to make sure they make you feel like thier special and unique guest.
This Hotel is catered for great fishing, they have found their niche and do it well.
We will be back to fish in 2011!

Hello, would like to share some info on beuna vista beach resort and hotel. I have been visiting this place since 1985. I/we have enjoyed many trips here, some fishing trips and some just for the relaxation. The resort is beautiful, the familia Valdez are just a wonderful bunch and the staff is great with most having been here for years. Everytime we go we are treated like family, we have been at all different times of the year with never a bad experience. There are not many resorts that you can go to for over 25 years and be able to say that. If we come for the fishing and don't do really well, It is made up for by the people and good times had doing other things like hanging by the pool with drinks from Ricardo, visiting with all the nice people, riding atv's for the afternnon to some of the interesting sites. Waterfalls, streams that appear from the ground and run a ways then disappear again back into the ground. Riding horses on the beach, Snorkeling right down in front of the resort where you see tons of fish. You can go into los barilles and have dinner/ drinks/ shop. We have left the resort and gone on day trier ps down to San Jose, Los Cabo's. Over the years the fishing has had it's up's and down's but overall is still very good and with the catch and release programs it is still some of the best in the world. We have caught stripped marlin, dorado less than a mile off the beach and when you are trolling there is so many interesting things that you are never bored, the crews on the boats are very friendly and helpful. Most speak very good english and the few that don't i have never had any problems being understood or understanding what they are saying..After a good day of fishing, Quick shower and out to the pool for some refreshments an meeting/ visiting with some of the great people that also enjoy the resort. I could go on for hours but i think this should give you a good idea how wonderful this place and the people truly are... ENjoy your trip and maybe we'll see you there....
