Thought I'd book this Super 8, since it has a pool. As soon as I entered the front doors, I realized it was a poor choice. If the price was better, I might be willing to ignore the fact that this place is ugly, cheap looking, and poorly managed. Stucco walls everywhere you look. I made the mistake of hanging in for a second night. Wish I'd made the switch to Woodland Inn; on TripAdvisor, you'll see my 2006 review.
Super 8 Meadow Lake, the good
- clean, spacious room
- in room fridge, large desk, black out drapes (although no sheers)
- continental breakfast 7 days a week begins at 6:30
- interior corridor
The bad
- cheap prints on the walls, cheap furniture including the 2 storage bins
- there's several electrical plugs in the room, but not where you need them e.g. an outlet by the desk for a laptop!
- bathroom door doesn't open fully because of improper placement of curved shower rod
- since parking lot is part of plaza next door, the parking lot lights were off when closed
- apparently, the newspapers that are on the front desk counter - but hard to get to - are free
- two floors, no elevator. My 2nd floor hallway smelled of smoke both nights
- cheap lidless ice bucket with no plastic bag for a liner
- the desk chair is too low for the desk, even after raising the chair to it's max
- wireless internet speed sometimes slow
- no in-room book to explain the hotel services and community
- no onsite fitness; I took advantage of their free pass to the Dynamic gym in town. It's hardly impressive. Old equipment. One shower. No lockers.
- the bar/restaurant attached has video lottery terminals. I didn't even want to venture in.
The ugly
- the reception staff: weak. They leave a cordless phone base at the counter that you are expected to press the Locator button to summon them. It was common to see them on the only love seat in front of the TV. Looked like a boyfriend was there the one time
- pool has a closed water slide - and a threatening note about trying to use the slide
- the breakfast room is gross. one small TV in the corner. cereal is in individual size boxes, bread and muffins are in covered plastic bins. Muffins are greasy. There's faded prints on ugly white walls.
I will definitely not return.
