“Perfect if you love Outdoor Activities”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2011

First of all this hotel is hard to find w/ GPS, cant find it so we decided just to follow the directions from website seems simple and it was but one thing it didnt mention after the exit it is about 15/20 miles before you find the hotel and far from everything else.

Once you get there it is beautiful although w/ quebec winter, if you dont have winter tires or suv it's a challenge because lots of hills and the auberge is at the top of the hill.
There are little cabins and villas all around Station Touristique Duschenay, for all we know at the website we booked a room at the auberge however quite dissapointed got a room at one of the cabin (caribou) which you have to drive to get there from auberge and all the other facilities (pool, sauna, hottub, restaurants, exercise room) is at the auberge.

Check in was fast and easy, staffs are very friendly and nice eventhough we arrived past 10pm.

once we got to the cabin, not as nice as the auberge and it's all stairs (4 floors on some), ours on the second thankfully. rooms are ok, small but comfy and clean so no complain about that.
You do get all the activities included so it's pretty reasonable if you are involved on the activites so it is a perfect place if you love the outdoor. view from cabin nothing but view from the auberge beautiful even if you dont get the lake view since it's on the hill you get a very nice wintery view.
I would definetely suggest call and specifically ask to have a room at the auberge, it's same price and you dont have to drive your car just to get to the restaurants or use the facilities.

One of the must try activites is dogsledding, although they charge like $100/person., it's once in a lifetime thing. too bad though we didnt get to try coz they all booked, so if you want you have to book in advance through their website.
Also we were told before the ice hotel just walking distance or in the station touristique too but they have moved this year, now it's 40 min drive from duschenay so be prepared because if you're here you might as well visit the ice hotel.

All in all it's a nice hotel..just make sure you'll get a room at the actual auberge...

“rustic european luxury”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2010

We just came back from a three day stay at the Station Touristique Duchesnay, and I can’t say enough good things about it. The facility is beautiful, a nice mix of rusticity and luxury, with a breathtaking view of the Lac Saint Joseph and the surrounding mountains. We stayed in the Auberge or main building, which is new and nicely decorated. We had two rooms, both pretty standard hotel rooms but clean and new and very comfortable. Once again, the views were the main thing. We found the staff to be helpful in all ways, from the front desk to the restaurant staff. I’ve read some reviews saying that the staff is unfriendly to non-French speakers, but we actually enjoyed the more European style of service: respectful and not fake-friendly. We had a great breakfast buffet one morning in the restaurant, and four course table d’hote meals one evening, both very well-done. Our children enjoyed the beach and lake activities and the game room in another pavilion. Quebec City is about 30 minutes away: easy to get to for a visit and a meal. It’s also close to many fun activities such as the Tree Link adventure and an elaborate labyrinth.
I do wish that there were more on-line information available on options and policies: we really had no idea what we were going into. The results were great, but I wish I had called ahead to learn about the possibility of renting a villa instead of two rooms in the auberge, and also about the two levels of activities options.

“A great place for a break in the summer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2010

We were in Quebec during a heat wave in July and wanted to chill out after overheating doing city sightseeing - this proved the perfect place to spend a couple of days. The Auberge is run by Sepaq, the Quebecois parks authority, and is right on the edge of beautiful Lac St-Joseph. It has facilities for lots of outdoor activities - boat hire, cycle and walking paths, a small beach on the lake for swimming (there are also lots of winter sports options available later in the year). It has a decent restaurant overlooking the lake, and a range of accommodation options, from 'villas' (log cabins) on the lake to hotel rooms in the Auberge itself, to simpler rooms in several 'Pavillions' (wooden lodges with about 12 rooms each). Service in Quebec was generally great, and staff at the reception of the Auberge were particularly amazing - they couldn't do enough for you. The only downside in our stay was that the Pavillion didn't have air conditioning or even a fan, and we were incredibly hot at night - the main Auberge does have air con, so might have been a safer bet, albeit more expensive.

“Romantic cabin on the wooded lakeshore”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2009

We stayed at one of the Auberge's 20 or so picturesque cabins on the lake shore. The cabin included plenty of parking, along with very easy access to the seasonal Canadian Ice Hotel / Hotel de Glacé (awe inspiring in it's own right) which was only 30seconds away as part of the same national park.

The scenic postcard-views from the kitchen and living room windows are simply fantastic and must be seen to be believed.

The cabin was incredibly spacious and featured three bedrooms, and real log fire in the living room with a treasure chest of logs for fuel. There were some strange electrical buzzing sounds permanently heard in parts of the cabin, but otherwise nothing out of the ordinary. The sofa's in the living room were undersized and particularly uncomfortable, in stark contrast to the rest of the furniture.

There are no real views from the bedrooms as they are below ground level, but this does mean they stay warm. Every room had it's own electrical heater with individual themostat which was excellent.

As you probably know, this area is located in the french speaking (francophone) Canadian province of Quebec and we had been warned to expect rudeness, but we found all the staff to be exceptionally tolerant of our French greetings and requests to speak english, which they did to a very high standard.

The main attraction for the cabin is the privacy and ability to cater for yourself at your own leisure, but beware, the kitchen does not come stocked even with the very basics (ie salt, pepper, sugar). It's location means it's right on top of access to a variety of sports and activities throughout the year.

“Clean rooms, friendly staff, fun activities available”

We stayed at the Auberge for 2 nites this Feb. for a wedding at the Hotel De Glace, which is located on the grounds. The hotel was clean and the concierge desk was very helpful. The view is beautiful as the location is not very populated but also not many alternatives for dinning out. A group of people we were traveling with went dogsledding and loved it.
