“Awesome countryside getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

This inn in the North of Quebec province is absolutely charming, especially in winter. Great location (2 hrs od drive from Montreal), in a postal card winter scenery, charmin and cosy rooms, clean. The spa offers a soothing moment and the staff is professionnal and very kind. The restaurant offers a breathtaking view on the lake. Dinner was mouth-watering and delicious. Highly recommended.

“Disappointing and frankly overated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2011

Lac Taureau is a nice reservoir 2 hours north-east of Montreal in the Laurentians. It was developed in the 30' and it is 45 km long and surrounded by beautiful woods.
This Auberge was built 15 years ago to create a pole of attraction and a source of work for the region.
We arrived in a Saturday afternoon. Check in was fairly straight forward and in 10 min we were in our room. The room was not exactly what we had requested; very limited view to the lake, very small for north american standards and there was some cigarette smell in the bathroom. We were transferred to another room with better view and no airconditioning. The rooms were (both) pretty spartan, no luxury whatsoever. The rugs on the floors in the corridors looked run down.
The geographic setting is really wonderful in a little peninsula with a private sand beach. There is canoes, kayaks, beac games, sea-doos, motor boats and so on. As usual motorized activities are extra. It is plenty of pats ready for trekking (mosquitos and bear permitted).
The food was very good (not exceptional) as well as the service in the restaurant.
The disappointment comes in the value for the money. At around $ 450 per night per couple (dinner and breakfast included) it is way bellow the competition in Quebec and north-east US. They should realize this point because american and canadian tourist alike will not be very enticed to visit this wonderful area at those prices. Some work in furnishing and decorating the rooms would help too. Wireless internet is available, but the reception in our room was very weak.

Dear customer,

We wish to express our apologies for the inconveniences you experienced during your visit and we want to thank you for taking the time to inform us of your thoughts. You comments allow us to improve constantly.

We are sorry for the room shortage. Only 8 of our 126 rooms are not equipped with an air-conditionners. The high volume of guests that were present during your stay obliged us to place you in one of these rooms. We are pleased that regardless of the situation, you found our rooms to be charming and we would like to inform you that we have renovated to corridors you have mentionned.

We are glad that you were pleased by the site and the surrounding nature. This is a strong charateristic at l'Auberge du Lac Taureau and we are fortunate to be able to benefit from the natural beauty of the space we find ourselves in. A point of interest, the sand on our private beach is one of the finest to be found in the region.

You should check-out our onlines offers and take advantage of some interesting savings. By comparison to the other Country Inn establishments, ours has the most competitive prices. Few other establishments offer as many activities.

I offer you once again, on behalf of the entire team at l'Auberge du Lac Taureau, our apologies and thank you for your objectivity and consideration.

Sincerely,

The direction.

“A luxury base for a magical winter holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2011

Went on a multi-activity holiday with Aventures Nouvelle France (highly recommended if you are based in France - flights out of Paris), and stayed at the Auberge for a week. In the snow, the (frozen) lakeside setting is picturesque and we found that there were lots of activities on offer at the hotel during the evenings when we returned from our action-packed days out. At night, the whole place is lit up with a cosy, alpine lodge feel. The remote location was a plus for us, as we wanted a tranquil holiday. Star-gazing on an evening walk was a highlight. A great base for snow-mobiling (motoneige) and quad-biking. Husky-sledding, cross country skiing, snow-shoeing and ice skating also available. Our room was spacious and well-equipped. The buffet-breakfasts were plentiful and the evening meals we had were good (although portion-sizes were sometimes small and vegetables a bit on the undercooked side). All staff were friendly and service as very good. Didn't use the spa or pool as our days were filled with the activities. Would highly recommend for a winter holiday.

“Relax at the beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2010

We, my 11 year old son and me, spend one night at the Auberge during our Quebec trip.
The hotel is far away from anything else, a long way to drive along lakes and rural areas.
Nice check in staff, my usual question for an top floor oom produced a top floor suite in one of the separate buidlings. Very good room quality, calm and clean.
Watersport is mostly for free, kajaks, boats and else.
Done a quick tour around the lake, hike´s are also on offer.
A real plus is the indoor pool checked in the evening.
Breakfast was not cheap, but everything what we need there.
Recommendable also with kids.

“Very relaxing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2010

We stayed in a grand classic condo. It was immense. A living room with sofabed, bedroom with queen, full kitchen and bath with whirlpool, and an adjoining separate bedroom with its own ensuite bathroom. Lovely wood beamed ceilings and furniture. Private terrace overlooking the lake. Very clean. Beds a little soft, but OK. Two gas fireplaces and TVs.

Breakfasts were buffets, but good station where they make omelettes or crepes to your order. Four course dinners came with our package. Game meat dishes were excellent, but usually came with a premium fee of $6-10 that had to be paid over the package price. Desserts tended to have strange combinations of ingredients for our taste, like a fruit and creamcheese concoction on a fried wonton instead of straight cheesecake and a chocolate torte with grapefruit sauce combination.

Very nice beach with clean water, not too cold in August.

Not a huge choice of free activities beyond the beach, hiking and kayaking. We tried archery, but the equipment was old and there were no armguards. We went bearwatching for $20, but no bears seen. We rented a seadoo (Jetski) for an hour one day which was fun. kids enjoyed the billiard table in the bar. My wife had a good massage at the spa.

Staff very friendly all around.

All around great, though you need to plan to spend more money on top of your package to enjoy the best amenities.
