We stayed at one of the secluded cottages for three days at Fairmont Kanauk. It was absolutely amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed our little cabin in the woods. It is so peaceful and quiet you can't help but relax. We had a wonderful evening show at dusk while a pair of loons played and did a show for us over the calm lake one evening, and an amazing show of northern lights in the sky one night . This is how cottage life and getting away from all should be. The facilities are just wonderful and the cabins are very well equipped. Nothing was left out -- every small thing is though of to make your stay worry free. All the ameneties were in perfect working order and we had everything that you could think of for our our fantastic stay. This was the highlight of our summer vacation amonngs other great trips we took in July and August. We will definately be back this fall for a weekend getaway and another quiet retreat!

Had a wonderful time fishing and enjoying the outdoors, BUT my son in exploring the many lakes had the misfortune of travelling between two islands (in the middle of same) and the motor on the Princecraft hit some rocks and caused damage to the motor.
The area was not marked and the persons at the registration desk are asking for approx $1,000 in repairs. The perosn at the marina stated that they knew that there were rocks and he could not mark everything. My question is how would my son know that there were rocks there (can not see under water). Wouldn't a chain this large have insurance for such an incident? And not pass the cost onto the guest!

Our family of 4 with 2 kids (6 and 3 yo) stayed at Kenauk (Chalet Taunton) at the end of August / beginning of September. It was kind of a last minute decision to go, but we are so glad we went!

Lake Taunton is one of the smaller lakes so the chalet is the only one on it. It was very picturesque. There were plenty of fish (trout) in the lake along with frogs, loons, and hawks. The chalet comes with a dock, 2 row boats, 2 kayaks, 1 canoe. Life jackets (kids and adults) are provided by the main office at check-in. There is also a small area of sand where the kids can wade into the water. The chalet itself is a one-bedroom, with 2 sets of bunkbeds and one double bed. In the kitchen/dining area, there is a refrigerator/freezer, gas stove. The washroom had a small (very!) shower, with no lack of hot water and a very warm gas heater. All the lights were propane gas, so you have to turn on the gas, then light them with a lighter (provided). The kitchen had all the pots/pans/utensils you would need to cook/clean. There is a deck with a picnic table outside, a large Napolean gas BBQ and a great firepit. Everything was spotless when we got there, nothing was missing. There's also a 2-way radio mounted in the kitchen for emergencies.

We had a great time fishing, rowing the boats, looking for wildlife/birds, hiking (there are marked trails everywhere, so just ask for maps), and trying to light the firepit. The weather was very cold while we were there, so the gas heaters and the firepit outside sure helped!

We had such a good time that we're already planning our next trip to Kenauk!

I cannot go on enough about the great time our family had at Kenauk Montebello this summer. In spite of the dismal weather, our stay was a trip to paradise. Our cabin was a small log cabin, no electricity just propane and solar power looking over our own private Trout filled lake. We woke up every morning to the sounds of two loons calling to each other and fell asleep at night to the sounds of the croaking toads. Our kids 3 and 5 yrs rowed a row boat, swam in the lake, roasted marshmallows, meet a 100yr old turtle, feed the fishies and we were treated to a tour of lake Papineau by the amazing and very knowlegable marina manager.
We are hooked! We will be returning for sure!
