I went here with my husband for a short stay of one night for a Xmas party. It took around 4 hours to get there but is well worth the drive. About 2 hours from Quebec city, there is so much beautiful scenery to see. We went in december and the grounds are filled with christmas lights and lighted trees. There is a beautiful majestic tree in the lobby. The rooms are very clean and large( we had a luxury room, which includes a coffee table and sofa). Everything in the hotel is elegant, antique style but there is nothing special about it. The only complaint I had was the food, although it was good but I expected better from a 5 stars restaurant.
What is good:
-Very clean rooms, and bathroom (small bathtub)
-Nespresso machine in each room with a few cups to choose from
-lots of amenities (bathrobe, lots of towels, in-room safe)
-Jazz bar at night (great place to have a drink, although very pricey)
-Casino Charlevoix, access by the inside of the hotel, although small, fun place to spend some time at night
-service is very attentive and willing to help
What could be better:
-I can't say the food was bad, but it very could be better. From my 4 course meal, I was excited to see that a salmon dish would be served an appetizer. I am a bit fan of salmon and was expecting a great dish. The plating was beautiful but I was disappointed to see that the salmon was a a bit overcooked. The main course was a filet mignon, and it was a tad dry. Nothing major, but I just expected better from this kind of hotel. When luxury is advertised, should be everything, including the food. For the price, you expect it.
what is bad:
-The only thing that is bad was the room was not very soundproof, especially in the bathroom. I was able to hear the people taking from the room beside us. You don't hear them that much, but you can still hear. I'm not sure if it was the room or maybe just the people beside us were just too noisy and loud, either way, it's a bit annoying.
