“Beautiful scenery!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

I went here with my husband for a short stay of one night for a Xmas party. It took around 4 hours to get there but is well worth the drive. About 2 hours from Quebec city, there is so much beautiful scenery to see. We went in december and the grounds are filled with christmas lights and lighted trees. There is a beautiful majestic tree in the lobby. The rooms are very clean and large( we had a luxury room, which includes a coffee table and sofa). Everything in the hotel is elegant, antique style but there is nothing special about it. The only complaint I had was the food, although it was good but I expected better from a 5 stars restaurant.

What is good:

-Very clean rooms, and bathroom (small bathtub)
-Nespresso machine in each room with a few cups to choose from
-lots of amenities (bathrobe, lots of towels, in-room safe)
-Jazz bar at night (great place to have a drink, although very pricey)
-Casino Charlevoix, access by the inside of the hotel, although small, fun place to spend some time at night
-service is very attentive and willing to help

What could be better:

-I can't say the food was bad, but it very could be better. From my 4 course meal, I was excited to see that a salmon dish would be served an appetizer. I am a bit fan of salmon and was expecting a great dish. The plating was beautiful but I was disappointed to see that the salmon was a a bit overcooked. The main course was a filet mignon, and it was a tad dry. Nothing major, but I just expected better from this kind of hotel. When luxury is advertised, should be everything, including the food. For the price, you expect it.

what is bad:

-The only thing that is bad was the room was not very soundproof, especially in the bathroom. I was able to hear the people taking from the room beside us. You don't hear them that much, but you can still hear. I'm not sure if it was the room or maybe just the people beside us were just too noisy and loud, either way, it's a bit annoying.

“5 Star for the area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

My husband and I were here in October for two nights. We drove up from Quebec City to see the fall leaves, which were breathtaking by the way. We are not "bed and breakfast" people, so we chose the Fairmont. Viewing the rooms on their website, I knew they were a bit dated. Was I in for a surprise! The hotel is in the process of renovations and we were given a newly redone room. It was lovely and the bath, although small, was beautiful with a great shower and some nice wall storage. They took advantage of their space. We had requested a St. Lawrence view room which is definitely worth it. Our windows could open and we loved the cool fresh air. We booked early and had no problem getting a view, plus we got a great rate.

The grounds are lovely and they have a casino-I think one of three in Canada. I love the slot machines, so I did spend a little time there!! The lobby is very "old school" elegant with a nice lobby bar. There were several events going on at the hotel, so that made things a bit lively, which was fun. We had dinner the first night at the restaurant Le Charlevoix and it was very good. The second night we took a 20 to 25 minute walk to town and had a great dinner at Chez Trouchon. We were so full we decided to walk back and felt very safe. The concierge at the hotel had menus from several nearby restaurants and they made the reservations for us.

If you stay here, remember that french is the main language, but everyone was eager to please and I know a tiny bit of french that helped some. We did join Fairmont's reward program, so that gave us free wifi in our room, which was nice to have.

Two nights in the area was plenty for us. We drove up to Tadassous(sp) which was very quaint and full of local charm, but we would have gotten bored if we had stayed longer. But we like cities and my husband can't sit around for long!

We went early October and it was in the 30's at night. Coming from a hot summer in the south, we really enjoyed the cold. Plus, as I said, the leaves were beautiful. If I went back to this area, I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a water view and a room that had recently been renovated

“Historic landmark”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011 via mobile

I'm always dubious of hotels with casinos attached to them....
I think many would come to this hotel and completely enjoy it but I think in this case I might have found a smaller hotel in the area better for my liking.

I do not have anything bad to say about the hotel but it is not particularly unique.

The beds were comfortable and the pool area nice. But we had weather and could not lounge by it.

“What a gorgeous setting!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

We stayed here at the end of April 2011. There was a little snow on the ground but spring was definitely in the air. Very easy drive from Old Quebec City. This hotel is very beautiful with the feel of a castle, and is located along the St. Lawrence River in La Malbaie, Quebec. This is a full service hotel with luxurious decor. The views are wonderful, walking trail along the river and a Casino right across the road. Whale watching is less than 70km away. This is a wonderful destination for a mini getaway. The restaurants are wonderful, the food was delicious and the views were spectacular! I would highly reccomend this hotel!

“Great experience in a great place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

Just came back from 1 week vacation at the Manoir with my wife and 2 yound children.
we've booked a room with a view on the St Laurent river. The view was spectacular.
The room was big enough for 4 persons.
In the hotel there were a lot of activities specially for the kids with a large room filled with games, puzzle, etc. The staff was very professional and very helpfull.
The food was great at the St Laurent restaurant. However at the Belrive (buffet style) the food was very common.
The casino very close by bring a lot of people at the hotel and sometimes you are surrounded with eldery people. They loved to see kids running around...
I just have to mention the golf course : a beauty !!!

Room Tip: when you take the st laurent river view make sure you have a 180 degres view
