I couldn't wait to write a review of this place...
We read all kinds of recommendations for this inn, and there were some nice features, like the gardens - they have an extensive, impressive vegetable garden that really is incredible. The inn itself was not one of the nice features.
First of all, the bed... we chose the less expensive room with a double bed, not because we're cheap, but because we didn't need the queen-size bed offered. The room was very small, and that's OK, and the bathroom was down the hall, and that's OK, but the bed... it was just awful, saggy and uncomfortable! After the first night of sleeping on it, my husband's back went out, so the next night we brought our camping pads in and put them over the mattress. And this was supposed to be the Doctor's Inn!? A stay here almost guarantees a trip to the chiropractor!
Then, there's the owner's of the inn.... they squabbled with each other, there were obvious jabs directed at each other. They were nice enough, but had an acrimonious relationship that made us feel uncomfortable. The lady of the house was obviously overworked with the garden and inn and all, and she complained to me that she hadn't been on a vacation for years, making me feel guilty for being on vacation and not being at home working like she was. They seemed to be struggling financially, that could explain the inadequate mattress.
The breakfast was nothing to write home about, but was sufficient. Meals were cooked on a wood burning cookstove with produce from the farm. For breakfast, everyone got the same thing: eggs and toast. We didn't eat dinner there, so I can't comment on their dinners.
