We were on our long anticipated vacation to Prince Edward Island from July 1st to July 9th when we discovered The Roseneath Country Inn, an outstanding B&B and one of the most enjoyable we have ever stayed at! We arrived on PEI July 1st for an eight day vacation, stayed with friends for a couple of days and then set off for three different locations for two nights each. We stayed in Saint Peters Bay at an Inn for two days and then stayed at Roseneath B&B near Montague in order to explore the Eastern Coastal Drive.
We always enjoy staying at B&Bs in order to meet other folks and talk with the hosts who offer help & guidance on sights to see and where to eat. The added bonus to this stay at Roseneath was meeting some bikers who were reviewing the Roseneath for future accomodations since it is near the Confederation Trail. The two breakfast were outstanding with Eggs Benedict one morning and French Toast & fresh fruit the next!
Brenda and Edgar were the BEST hosts that we have met during our stays at B&Bs. They were gracious, & offered suggestions for dinner & lunch - dinner at Windows on the Water was excellent, lunch at Clam Diggers in Georgetown was terrific and we went back the next day for the mussels and chowder! We used their bikes & helmuts to ride the Confederation Trail for several hours to work off some of those wonderful PEI meals. Since the Conferation Bike Trail runs right through their property, it was an easy bike ride to Montague to check the restaurant they recommended for dinner, Windows on the Water.
Roseneath is located off the main road, Route 4 only 2 miles from Montague and easy acess to many other parts of East Coast Drive on PEI. We used it as a base to see various lighthouses in the area including - Panmure Island which had horses grazing in front for a wonderful photo op.
Edgar & Brenda also invited us all to to meet some friends who were arriving on PEI for the summer and served some delicious strawberry shortcake and wine. Since my wife's family on her mother's side was from PEI, Brenda was a great help on who to see for the genealogy of the family name. She also showed us her books on the subject.
Edgar, having traveled extensively in his career to Saudi Arabia and Indonesia was a pleasure to chat with over some wine until 11 PM one evening. I know we solved all the various political, economic and cultural problems in the world, just a question if they would follow our advice and suggestions : -)
All in all Roseneath Country Inn was one of the best B&Bs we have stayed in and we are NOT affiliated in any manner with the PEI tourist bureau nor the Dewars, just a couple of Americans from Marshfield Mass that had a wonderful vacation in PEI and a lovely stay at Roseneath.
