“Comfortable hotel with friendly staff”

Just stayed for one night recently but arrived late in the evening and found the front desk staff friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and beds very comfy. Morning complimentary breakfast was definitely adequate and nicely presented.

“Has the basics”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2011

The title says it all. This hotel has what you need but that's it. The staff at the front desk were quite accommodating when I asked to change the room from 1 King to 2 Double beds. The free breakfast is convenient and has a variety of choices from cereal to waffles. The lobby is bright and clean yet the hallways are very warm.
The room itself was very basic and had a musty odor. I had to get candles to reduce the smell. The carpet and chairs were stained to the point that we did not use them except to dump the heavy bedspreads. The bathroom was relatively clean. The beds were neatly made but bouncy, two children plunking down on them will attest to that.
Overall, the hotel has what you need but could use some major cleaning, industrial cleaning of the fabrics like carpets and chairs. This may help to alieviate the smell that greets you as you open the door to your room.
I have stayed here previously and can honestly say that I was disappointed this time.
If you plan to stay here bring Lysol, baking soda, or candles.

“Perfectly acceptable stop over hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2011

My husband and I with our older teenager stayed here for one night en route from Toronto to Montreal. We reserved a room with two double beds for CAD$119/£78; a reasonable cost we felt. The room had a microwave and 'fridge, which was more than we were expecting and it was clean and comfortable with free WiFi - no issues for us with the pillows! This, in my opinion, obviously isn't a destination hotel but a stop-over and so is just off the junction of the 401 and you are, therefore, going to share the surrounding area with other travellers, truckers etc. There is a garage, Tim Horton's, Swiss Chalet, pizza take away and, new to us Brits, a Harvey's. Exactly as we expected and that any look on Google Maps will show you.

So all as expected for a stop-over, with one notable exception. We have stayed in a couple of dozen Comfort Inns during holidays to the USA/Canada and the 'complimentary breakfast' is always the expected coffee/tea, cereal, waffles - it's free, so you're not going to get much more! But it was a pleasent to go to breakfast and, along with the usual, also be offered fresh out of the oven muffins and danish pastries, cleanly displayed and handled.

Staff were pleasant enough and for a stop-over holiday, we had a very good experience.

“Very Satisfied”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2011

In spite of the many negative reviews, we decided to stay here because we have always found Comfort Inns to be clean and comfortable. The Port Hope property did not disappoint us. The girl at the desk was friendly and efficient and our room was spotlessly clean, comfortable, and pleasantly decorated. We had brought our own pillows because we had read that theirs were hard as rocks, but we ended up not using ours because the hotel pillows were just fine and there were four on each bed. The only criticism we had was that the television was the old style; however that seems to be the case in most hotel chains we have stayed in.

“Just a stopover hotel”

I've stayed here twice and I won't stay there again if I can help it. It isn't very clean, it's old and needs to be updated. It's not cozy at all. I did not feel comfortable staying there. The staff are average; not too friendly. It was quiet, but I wouldn't recommend staying more than one night.
