“Clean & Comfortable”

After driving up the Dempster we stayed at the Arctic Chalet for 2 nights. The cabin was clean and comfortable. The supplies in the kitchen were adequate and we added a few things with a quick stop at the grocery store. The dogs were friendly and we took one for a short hike one morning. The dogs are remarkably quite after 10:00 pm. They seem to know that's bed time. You are a bit out of town but it's well worth it for the feelling of being in a cabin in the wilderness. We would definitely stay there again.

“Arctic Charlet has 100% lived up to our expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010

We were two men from Denmark, which this summer was on a five-week canoe expedition on rivers in the northern NWT.
Canoe and all the gear we rented from Arctic Charlet and we had a couple of nights here before we started the expedition. The cabines are clean and very cozy and contains precisely as needed.
Olav and Judi were extremely helpful in getting everything to work before departure and we had stored all the baggage that we should not use during the expedition.
After the five weeks we were picked up by the floatplane and we subsequently had three days of Arctic Charlet before returning to Denmark. Again we saw an unusually large hospitality and we felt really at home and very well treated.
We were a couple of times transported to enter the city because all cars were rented and must say that the service was absolutly in top.
Arctic Charlet has approx. 35 huskies but you hear almost no noise from them. After 10 pm, there is total peace from this side.
Thank you to Olav and Judi! We really appreciate staying with you and can only give our warmest recommendations to the Arctic Charlet.

“It does not get any better than this!”

We traveled by auto up the splendid Dempster Highway with our two small grandchildren this July. The views were magnificent and the road was great for a gravel road. We made a reservation at the Arctic Chalet months ahead and the owners gave us great tips to prepare for our trip up this road. Our cabin was spacious, spotless, and comfortable. The decor was elegant and Judi and Olav made us feel at home. They gave us ideas of where the "must see places" were. We were interested in flying up to Tuk on the Arctic Ocean. Judi arranged for us to do this and they took us to the airport and picked us up. We have traveled extensively and the Arctic Chalet tops the list of places we have stayed in.

“Disgusted with their cabins, we stayed at the McKenzie hotel in Inuvik.”

After many months of correspondence with the owners of Arctic Chalet in Inuvik, Canada, my wife and I arrived there in early June, 2010. We had driven from Dawson City. We learned the owners were away on a trip and a young woman had been left in charge of the property. She was from far away and basically on a vacation herself. She was not sure how to process my method of payment. My wife and I were shown the Fireweed cabin. When we entered this cabin it reeked of raw sewage. The young woman then attempted to show us the adjoining cabin. It too reeked of raw sewage. Needless to say, we declined to stay at the Arctic Chalet. A great disappointment after all of the planning and driving 450 miles from Dawson City on the Dempster Highway. We drove into the city and obtained a room in the McKenzie Hotel. I can absolutely recommend the McKenzie Hotel. Great rooms, great service, and great staff, and just across the street from the R.C.M.P. station.

“WARNING- STAYING HERE MAY CAUSE YOU TO MISS YOUR FLIGHT”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2009

In previous years, we have enjoyed our stays at the Arctic Chalet with very minor to no problems. However, this year has definitely changed our minds on booking accommodations for our annual business trip next year to the North West Territories.

For Example:
*She was 45 minutes late picking us up from the airport
*She put us in a trailer instead of a cabin which was initially booked. The trailer door had to be hip-chucked to open, the oven door was broken on the stove, and the trailer was noticeably unlevel.
*She was 15 minutes late meeting us to check us out, at a scheduled time, she claimed would be lots of time to be there for our flight.
*She tried to make another guest pay for both the B&B that she had booked for him at another location (due to the fact that she got his reservation wrong and booked him short of a day) because she forgot to call and cancel his reservation when a space (by space I mean a decrepit old camper) became available at the Chalet.
*She made us miss our flight because of her tardiness and the fact that she forgot what time our flight was…even though there's only 1 flight out of Inuvik everyday from that airline…no apology.
*She was an hour late picking us up from the airport after she made us miss our flight. Her excuse was that she just forgot all about us and then she just figured that we had taken a cab in to town - no apology.
*She forgot all about the fact that another guest wanted to book a flight out to Herschel Island through her assistance. She then proceeded to tell him (and us after we missed our flight due to her flakiness) all about her wonderful "once-in-a-lifetime-for-most-people" trip to Herschel Island…
*She fought HARD not to give us a free night of accommodation even though she made us miss our flight (she blamed us for this because she felt no “urgency” and therefore no need to get us to the airport right away)…we ended up agreeing on 1/2 price and she "didn't" charge us for our shuttle back from the airport when we missed our flight because "it was a bad day for us"
*When we arrived back in Edmonton and I check our bill, I found that our room rate had gone up by…you guessed it $20…the cost of 1 shuttle ride from the airport…unbelievable...

Inuvik is beautiful, and the arctic huskies are adorable and add a nice charm to the so called B&B. If you are looking for a true B&B, this is not it. The proclaimed make-it-yourself breakfast provided us with a couple juice boxes; expired skim milk powder; sugar cubes left open for any rodents; pancake mix and instant oatmeal mix. I really wish I had more positive things to say about this place, for they do seem like a nice couple. Perhaps a stay in the dead season would have given my co-worker and me a different attitude and a different experience all together. Nevertheless, it hasn’t and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. I hope for any future guests that your stay will be the opposite of ours.
