“Best in Inuvik”

What a great place to stay. The cabins were great and very homelike. Kitchenette was ampily prepared with all of the things you need. Satellite and wifi, what more do you need.

Judy and Olaf are simply amazing and accomadating. We were "stuck" and extra 3 days and they did everything to reduce our stress of being "stranded". The sno mo excursion out to their cabin for a arctic char dinner was awesome. The dog sledding was beyond fun!!!

Cannot forget Jamie and Stephanie, you are also part of our new "Arctic Family"!

Cannot wait to get back!!!

Room Tip: bring some of your own groceries cause they are expensive in town.

“Best way to experience the North”

4 of us stayed here for the weekend to enjoy the north. We were met at the airport, taken back to the Chalet, checked in and taken to our warm and cozy cabins. It was cold outside, but lovely inside our cabin. We had the Birchwood and Twilight cabins. The snowmobile tour to the outpost cabin followed by an Arctic Char dinner was amazing. Dogsledding the next day was even better. The cabins are clean and well equipped. Down duvets and bounce fresh linens were awesome. Judi had all the gear needed to ensure we were warm on all the outdoor activities.
It was nice to have rooms that weren't your standard hotel room. Lots of nice little extras. Self serve breakfast with oatmeal, cereal, pancakes with syrup, canned fruit etc. All dishes needed if you want to cook yourself.
This was our third visit to the Arctic Chalet and there will be more. Don't waste time at any of the other hotels, here you get the room plus a whole lot more to have an awesome northern experience.

Room Tip: No rooms are bad. Dogs are quiet at night, unless a squirrel or rabbit runs by!!

“The real thing in the Northwest Territories”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

We were a group of 6 people heading out to do a canoe trip, so we stayed the night before our flight out, and stayed the night we returned. We loved the place. With white huskies, a trail to walk, and nice, compact, clean cabins, this is as authentic as it gets in northern Canada. Judi works hard to make sure your stay is comfortable. Realize that these are working people, who fly planes, feed and mush dogs, drive tourists--pretty much do it all. If you are looking for sheer luxury, pass this place by, but if you are looking for an opportunity to examine beautiful log structures, a working kennel, handmade innovative sleds, and a slice of life outside of the strip in Inuvik, this is the ticket. Great, friendly people, sometimes harried in the summer, but what do you expect? It's light 24 hours a day and everyone wants to have fun and make the most of it! Thanks, Judi and Olav.

“Cabin under the Midnight Sun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

We stayed in cabin number 3 (Cloudberry) in July 2011. The cabin was clean, comfortable and well maintained.
The chalet gets its water supply delivered by tanker from the town’s supply. It is clean and perfectly safe to drink, but we noticed a musty aftertaste. Boiling the water removes this taste, and by refrigerating some overnight you have tasteless water for the following day. Our cabin was equipped with a fridge, two-ring hotplate, microwave oven, television set and satellite box. All crockery and cutlery are provided—almost a home-away-from-home!
The huskies are usually very quiet at night. Like all dogs, they get enthusiastic and very vocal when mealtimes are near, and sometimes they squabble among themselves. They are working dogs, and they live in a team hierarchy, so the dominant dogs make sure the subordinates know their place. This is natural; these spats seldom last more than a few seconds, and the squabbling individuals do not appear to be harmed.
Our cabin was well-supplied with dried goods (cereals, coffee, tea, sugar, pot-noodles, pan-cake mix). The pancake mix was perhaps an optimistic idea because we never found a frying pan in which to cook pan-cakes! We ran out of teabags one day, and after a request at the lodge we were re-supplied within minutes.
The curtains in our cabin were thin, and provided a reasonable level of privacy, but they did not create optimum darkness for sleeping. In the summer months it’s a good idea to take eyeshades so you can get a good night’s sleep.
You can get a free shuttle into town and pick-up to get back to the lodge. Chalet staff are friendly and helpful and always willing to drop you off at suitable hiking points. They can organise trips to almost anywhere in the western arctic.

“Chalet worth more than Tuk tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2011

Very cozy cabin with modern ammenities. Fantastic to experience the midnight sun. We had a goog night's sleep and were not too disturbed by the barking of the huskies. Our host, Jan, was very helpful and gave lots of information. On the other hand, we were disappointed by the Tuk tour which at 420$ per person was very expensive! The airplane ride over the MacKenzie delta was beautiful and Tuktuyaktuk was interesting to visit even though the Inuit are not very sociable with tourists. By the way, the very old Cessna did not not make us feel secure, please consider a more recent plane!!!
Thanks for a great stay anyway.
