“Charming hostoric Inn”

We have stayed at the Gillespie on a couple of special occasions. Lori and David have been gracious, friendly hosts and the rooms are very well done with a combination of late 1800's antiques and modern conveniences. Its a excellent place for a stay of several days as there is lots to see and do in the area, with the Ships Company Theatre within walking distance, as is the Bare Bones Cafe and a few minutes drive away is the Geological Museum and a nice hike at Partridge Island. Its also a good base to go and explore the incredible Cape Chignecto area with its hiking and sea kayaking, with Cape d'Or nearby and one of the best restaurants in Nova Scotia at the Wild Caraway. The entire area is a nature lovers and photographers dream

With the filling and delicious breakfast that David and Lori provide you will have lots of fuel for all your explorations of this natural paradise. Its a bit off the main tourist routes, but its a scenic drive in and a stay at the Gillespie house is a great reward for the effort.

“THE place to stay in Parrsboro”

The Gillespie Inn was our first accommodation in Nova Scotia. And, unfortunately, I think it spoiled us for the rest of the trip! Certainly, it was one of my 'Top Three' places to stay. Among its plus-points, I must enumerate the beautiful rooms and our great hosts:

The beds were very comfortable and the linens the nicest I have seen anywhere. The ensuite bathroom we had in our room (the front one) was quite large, and I loved bathing in the claw foot tub! Another very nice point of the Gillespie is their common rooms downstairs... very welcoming and cozy, day or night. The six of us felt good gathering there.

Our hosts were great... helpful in pointing out things we'd like to do in the area without being intrusive. One thing I dislike about most B&B is how "in your face" a lot of other hosts and guests can be. But that is not the case in the Gillespie!

In fact, the only negative point I found in the whole experience was the inability to control/ shut off the heat in our room. We had to sleep with the windows wide open, but were preoccupied that we'd ruin the nice hardwood floors should it rain!

Overall, I think the Gillespie is THE place to stay in Parrsboro.

TIP: If you are coming to Nova Scotia in the Autumn, the front-facing room has an excellent view of the lawn and large trees in front. It gets a lot of sun and feels like the room you wish you'd grown up in!

“Great stopover”

We recently spent a night in this lovely inn while traveling from Annapolis Royal to New Brunswick. It was a long trip along the coastal road & after getting lost in a couple of towns along the way, we were certainly pleased to reach our destination & meet Laurie, who was so welcoming. While Parrsboro probably isn't high on most peoples "must see" places, Gillespie Inn is a wonderful place to stay. It is extremely comfortable with spacious rooms, great amenities & a delicious breakfast.
Laurie is a most gracious host who gave us plenty of useful advice about the area, dining tips plus some really helpful information about New Brunswick, where she spends a lot of time.
We really enjoyed our night in this inn & would certainly recommend it.

“Gorgeous B and B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

We stayed here based on Trip Advisor reviews....and I'm most glad we did! The place is beautiful and comfortable. I really enjoyed the old claw-foot tub in the room! We had wine and cheese with our friends on the veranda with some great "dragon's breath' blue cheese that we bought at the "That Dutchman's Farm" cheese place which was on our route to Parrsboro...yum! The host at Gillespie were friendly and helpful without being obtrusive. Parrsboro is a very quiet town without many restaurant choices...but some very scenic spots nearby. The breakfast at Gillespie was very tasty and I loved having REAL maple syrup. If I'm ever in Parrsboro again, I'd stay here again.

“This is a lovely refurbished charming older home that is a pleasure to stay in.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

This older charming home is reappointed with all of the comforts required. It is handy to all of the attractions in the area. Laurie the owner and onsite proprietor is quite knowledgeable and current regarding restaurants, and services available.
The beds, linen, towels, and available toiletries are comfortable and well provided. There is a lovely breakfast provided each morning with choices of fresh fruit , cereals, breads, fresh muffins and a choice of a hot entree all waiting and served elegantly and efficiently. We were permitted to use the refrigerator to store our perishables and ice. There are well appointed community areas inside and out for relaxation and interaction.

The only minor drawback is a somewhat steep stair to the second floor guest rooms which must be negotiated with baggage.
We would definitely stay here again if in the area.
