We travel to Cape Breton once or twice a year - every time we stop at Laurie's Motor Inn I am always amazed at the improvements and upgrades that are constantly happening at this location. They just never stop. They should get an award on their property maintenance. And it is spotlessly clean.
Canada is working hard to create "experiences" for travellers - staying at Laurie's is an experiential experience.
The cuisine is excellent, the staff warm, friendly and provide exceptional service. Scallops on our first evening were cooked to perfection and on the second evening i tried an Acadian Dish - Meat Pie - it was delicious! The Breakfast Buffet is excellent value -and the breakfast menu allows many choices - we couldn't resist the scrumptious and plentiful buffet - eggs, bacon, french toast, pancakes, home fried potatoes in addition to porridge, cereal, juices. The plates we noted going to nearby tables where guests had ordered from the menu looked very appealing and mouth-watering. The fresh daily dinner biscuits as well as the cinnamon rolls and oatcakes at breakfast are baked on the premises . Oatcakes are a Cape Breton specialty - Laurie's has the best!.
The hotel is pet-friendly and our room was comfortably decorated - all the rooms are spacious with large bathrooms. Newly decorated rooms have beautiful floating hardwood floors and real wood furniture - well appointed with attractive pictures, mirrors, spacious closet space. They are constantly upgrading both interior and exterior . It's astounding.
While there we noted that the Guest Laundry has great facilities and cloths are supplied to wash your car or motorbike. - where else can you get that service?
To top it all off - there is often entertainment in a very large lounge above the dining room
Acadian music abounds in Cape Breton - the entertainer interpeted the songs, the acadian origins, the links with Louisianna and France. It was a combination of story telling, Acadian music with a bit of John Denver and Ian Tyson thrown in for good measure.
The staff are a wealth of knowledge of what to see and do while in Cheticamp which enriches the stay and acknowledges the community.
We met people from all over North America (they come from all over the world) who were overcome with the beauty of the area and the genuineness of the experience at Laurie's.
