“Looking forward to next year's visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011

We stayed with the Valhalla Lodge owners at one of their managed rental properties and can't wait to return. The place was immaculate, beautifully looked after, with more welcoming inclusions than any other rental property we have used. Gina couldn't be more helpful and the restaurant they run a few minutes away proves that you can still find excellent food at a place that feels like the end of the earth. I can't imagine a place better looked after nor more in keeping with the Newfoundland attributes that my family and I love - they take the trouble to care for guests as they would do their neighbour, and all we wish is that we could be their neighbour for more than a few days a year. Don't expect New York / London 5 star - expect the best you could wish for in a remote, hospitable, very beautiful part of the world. Love it.

“Soooo relaxing and certainly coming back !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2011

I have stayed at Valhalla Lodge Bed and breakfast many times over the years and visited their during the week of August 15th this year. I loved the relaxed atmosphere, genuine warmth and hospitality. Bella and Gina are very knowledgable about the surrounding area and its history. Hiking in the area can be tricky if you are unaccustomed to rural walks and go off of the beaten path. It is important to have solid hiking shoes or boots. Bella and Gina are very knowledgable and set us off us on great day hikes.
There are many places to explore and things to do. Valhalla is an excellent base to set out from to see the two viking settlements at Lans Aux meadows and to take the iceberg and whale watching tours from St Anthony. There are many artisans in the area and pretty outport fishing communities to visit (check out Raleigh). There are a couple of good restaurants. The Norseman has awesome food deserts to die for!
I enjoyed that I could have local preserves and berries with my pancakes. The views from the lodge are astounding, especially this year with the icebergs! I was amazed to see so many wild flowers including Irises in the Summer. This is certainly a beautiful place to stay for those who love the outdoors and enjoy peace and quiet while vacationing. I am planning on returning with my husband next year to rent one of the ocean front houses that are rented out by the lodge proprietress. I woould certainly stay at Valhalla again.

“A Very Special Place - Dispute former post -NOT DISAPPOINTED AT ALL”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

I just returned from my annual escape New York trip to the St Anthony area. I love valhalla lodge. It has everything that makes staying in the area special. Great location with the 1,000,000 dollar view. I loved the fresh baked bread - and the consistently good local jams -continental breakfast and the excellent coffee (porto rican coffee ) . I also noted all the exellent comments of all this summer's guest in the feedback -comment book. There were all good comments and only one out of over 200 bad, It is alway the bad comment that ends up on trip advisor so I am writing to counte rsuch an untrue previous post.

“Absolutely a disgrace”

No one was there when we arrived. A phone dangled from the wall with poorly written instructions. The bed was lumpy. The food was terrible. The hostee is only interested in one thing: getting you to eat at her high priced restaurant. In my opinion, the only reason this place is still in business is that there no one is inspecting the dirty kitchen which can be readily seen as one walks by. Oh, by the way, the hostess did appear to collect her money the last day. That was the only time we saw her. And, she did not even want guests to have orange juice if they had coffee as well. The worst Bed and Breakfast we have ever stay in. Absolutely a disgrace.

“Great Breakfast Included”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2011

Stayed in the Snorri Room for 1 night. Very convenient location to l'anse aux meadows. Room was neat and clean, the beds were comfortable. Shower was so/so. We couldn't locate the key in the room and the owner's were nowhere to be found, however when making a call from the main lobby the owner came right away. The Snorri room has a private balcony, and we could see icebergs through the branches of the trees, pretty cool, but a bit disappointing because of the abundance of foliage, it would be much more spectacular if the trees were cut back a little. The mini fridge in the room was very convenient although there was no coffee, only tea in the room. The included breakfast in the morning was spectacular in a cozy common room. The bread tasted home made and was excellent toasted with a bit of home made partridgberry jam. The coffee was very good.

Room Tip: Good price and comfortable for a few nights stay.
